It's the same in sc, sandra: right-to-hire, right-to-fire state. I get 6 weeks unless there's a medical reason to get more. And I only get paid if i'm eligible for short-term disability, which i'm eligible for at my 2-year mark (which just happens to be a month after he's due). So it's kind of complicated for me... But i'm probably quitting, anyway.

Ya I count my lucky stars sometimes to live here. Great maternity leave, free medical care and kids from 0-25 get free prescription medication as long as their in school.

6 weeks is ridiculous, you're just starting to recuperate.

I'm probably quitting, like I said. I'm looking for telecommuting stuff right now, but my bf says it will be ok if I don't find something right away. My bosses don't know i'm leaving... I don't want them to know for fear they decide not to let me stick around. I want to be able to get whatever vacation and sick time pay i've got left.

I lived in toronto for 6 months and I would never do that again. Montreal is just the place to be!..Thats just my opinion anyway. But here we now are the only province in canada that offers 70% of your salary for the first 18 weeks of mat leave and for the remianing 32 its 55% of your salary we def . Are lucky!

word for word, ya that's it. :-) i'm happy to have grown up with 2 languages. My son is in french daycare so that he can learn early on too, but it's funny cause he now calls his dad papa instead of dada like he was doing. Lol my smart 10 month old!! Lol

Lalee, if you can afford it stay at home, your kids need you more! If you decide you want to work later just get you a little part time job while your husband is at home, then he can see what you get to put up with, that way you get a little space too or take a couple of classes. But the main thing is is to do what makes you happy!
The best to you and yours!
