One of my good friend is adopted. His
'new' parents are both white, and now in
their mid thirties. This kid is twelve.
He is also of african-american descent.
How many young people do you know, are
willing to adopt a young child of another
color, and only because they want to help?
How many people are willing to go out
there, and seriously do just that? Not
many. This kid has told me about his
thankfully few memories of the place he
was kept in. Its terrible. He was the
only 'black' kid of the lot.
Personnaly, i'd rather my 'child' have
another chance in different life, rather
than be raised by parents who couldn't
take care of him/her.

I understand what you are saying to a
certain point but that is not what the
biological parents felt and it was their
choice at the time. All we can do is hope
that his adoptive parents and friends can
help to turn the negative thoughts into
positive thoughts. I am sorry to hear
that your friend has such negativeness in
his past. Their was a .African-.American
on the .Oprah show the other day and he
was great! I hope that if this friend of
yours needs some help about his past that
his new family will get him the help he
needs and I hope that he gets the love
that he so deserves! It is great that his
new family wants to help, it is too bad
that it did not happen twelve years ago
and it is good that he has someone like
you to talk to about his situation.
All the best!

When I have asked pro-life aquaintances
(outside the topic of abortion) if they
would ever consider adopting, the majority
replied something along the lines of, "No,
I want my OWN kid! Adopting just isn't the
same!" :-/
It's like the pound. Mostly everyone wants
a puppy, and those people look at the
older dogs, the handicapped dogs, the
plain not-cute dogs, and see them as
someone else's charity case. "Oh, there's
plenty of people who would want them!"

I couldn't have said it better Jenn!! I
feel the exact same way!
Another thing that irks me is when a
pro-lifer says it's not the 'quality of
the life', it's 'the life itself'. What!?
Why add to the population when there are
already plenty of people here?! Give the
children that are already here a chance to
a lovely life instead of waiting for a
teenage girl to fall pregnant then
pressure her into giving you THAT child
because you know it's
white/healthy/whatever!
From what I've gathered, "Pro-life" should
be switched to "Pro-Fetus" because that's
all they seem to care about. Not about the
infants, children, and adolescents stuck
in the legal system just trying to find a
loving family/home! Care about the QUALITY
of LIFE for once!

I completely agree! The "extreme"
pro-lifers will even admit to you that
they only care about the fetus, and that
even if the life of the woman carrying the
fetus is in danger of dying, that she
should put her "baby" first and risk
death! I think many of them could be
called anti-woman as well.
