Still Not Sure...
Posted: 05-16-06 12:34pm

I've been diagnosed with ibs, hiatal hernia and acid reflux. I've also had appendicitis.

Was on librax but stopped due to side effects. Take 1 nexium 30 mins before my first meal of the day.

My ibs originated as ibs-c, with a bm usually once a week to once a month. This changed rather rapidly to ibs-d, and I now generally have around 6 bm's per day, which are extremely loose, watery, dark and foul smelling. My symptoms increase dramatically during menstruation, as does the switch between c and d. I rarely have symptoms of ibs-c anymore unless it is during menstration, or if I take medications such as immodium. I've been ibs-d predominant for about 5 or 6 years now, and I have had symptoms of ibs for approximately 9 years.

There are a few symptoms that I believe are related to a gastric disoder, but have thus far been unaddressed. As my ibs has become more severe, i've also had significant weight gain, regardless of improvements in diet and exercise. I've also had chronic urticaria, with no known cause. All tests for food allergies, celiac, etc. Have been negative. Recently, i've also noticed a marked increase in undigested food in feces. Other symptoms, including severe fatigue, have been considered possible indications of hypothyroidism, etc., but all of these tests were also negative.

Any ideas as to what I may be dealing with?

Thanks,
britt
