As some of you know i've been trying to
conceive (i don't know if I have this
month and my period isn't due for another
5 or 6 days) however I have a cat scan
scheduled for sunday and it's very
important that I get it done. Could this
harm a possible child in any way?

Pregnancy And Radiation Posted: 01-10-04 21:29pm
Hi,
first of all you have to take care of
yourself. I don't know what you need the
ct for but if you are not well, you will
not carry the baby well.
Second, it depends on what you are getting
a ct of. From conception to 8weeks the
fetus is very sensitive to radiation.
For example, an abdominal ct probably
would not be a good idea right now. Can
you get it rescheduled until later next
week when you know if you are preg?
Call the doctor who referred you to get
the ct. You might be able to talk them
into an mri or ultrasound which will not
hurt the fetus.
Good luck

Thanks so much for your response. I
phoned my doctor (at home!) and explained
the situation and he said he would send me
for a blood test and get the results prior
to the cat scan and if it's positive he
will not go through with it. I am not ill
or unhealthy however I have some stomach
problems (i've had them for 20 years) and
they just wanted to see how my intestines
were. Thanks once again
love
