Oatmeal Cereal At 3 1/2 Weeks!!
Posted: 05-18-06 20:03pm

Hey yall!! My angel had a .Dr's appt today and he told me to start her on oatmeal cereal. She gained another lb which is "too much" in one week!!

She's been sleeping from feeding to feeding the past 2 nights(which is 4 hours) and was doing that before her fussy episode the other day. He wants her to sleep through the night so that's why he wants her on the oatmeal cereal.

The only thing is we .H.A.V.E to feed her with a spoon only!! Can you inderstand how messy that's gonna be?!?!?! He said she'll get the hang of it real quick!

Imma take some pics!! Wish us luck!!!

Sarah

edit: I put oatmean cearl instead of oatmeal cereal in the subject!

I asked him the same thing. But he said that's with "rice cereal" not oatmeal...Who knows...Imma just follow his orders!!!!!

It's not like she's not gaining enough weight!!!

Why did your doctor recommend starting oatmeal cereal? I thought they started with rice cereal to keep food allergies down. I agree, my doctor said no way until 6 months old. I told him i'd tried her on it when she was 4 months. He laughed and said, "huh uh. Wait."

it didn't help her sleep through the night anyway. She still got up.

Maybe you should get a second opinion... Eating cereal when your baby's not even a month old just doesn't sound right to me. :/

I've done some reading up on it and from what i've read, oatmeal cereal, as opposed to rice ceareal, is ok to start at 1 month. (which she makes on .Saturday)

i'll let yall know tomorrow how it made her sleep. We only have to give her 3 table spoons. Which is gonna be fuuun.

Her .Dr is actually on the board of specialists down here. So his opinion is a good one, i'm just a paranoid person, that's why I looked it up.

Sarah, we started giving adriana on cereal a couple weeks ago (she was 2 months on the 13th) and she's doing just fine on it. Tho I was told to start rice first. But with such a little amount I don't see how either would be bad. I give it to her in a bottle tho, because she got too frustrated with the spoon. Now she's taking two 5 oz. Bottles a day. One in the morning and one before bed. She now sleeps like 12 hours through the night.

Naw just do it if dr okayed it but if it doesnt sit well on her then stop

i fed both mine cereal before 3 months and they needed it, 4-6 months is based on the average baby but no 2 babys will be the same sarah.

My son has been eating rice cereal for about 3 weeks now and hes starting to sleep the night but holy f*ck the kids is drinking 10 ouces in a 4 hrs period sometimes even more both my kids are pigs lol(this is on formula)!!

If you dont feel comfortable then dont feed the little one, yes it is messy as they will push it out with their tongue at first cam still does it but hes getting better next month hes going on fruit woohoo!! Too many rules nowadays just remeber you are the mother you know what your kid needs and honestly some kids do need food before 4 months!!

Dont starve the poor thing some just need more substance then others (saying that a baby doesnt need food till 6 months is bs 6 weeks my daughter was drinking 70+ oz a day and was sleeping the night when we had her on 80-85 oz or with cereal!!

Lol...Last night was a night!! Hahaha...You shoud've seen her trying to eat from a spoon!! I wound up giving her formula. Today I gave her a bottle with some in it and she took it well. It was one of the few times she didn't throw up.

She's been having gas for the past few days and the .Dr said that this should loosen her up.

He also started her on a vitamin supplement. It doesn't have any iron in it due to her formula containing iron and the oatmeal cereal has a little.

You're right about the rules issue!!!! I never would've imagined there'd be this many!! My mom was like .Jesus, I didn't know any of this stuff when you were growing up!!
