Who Has Anxiety Aswel As Epilepsy Posted: 01-10-04 00:54am
Whe I was alittle girl I had anxiety well
thats what my mum told me. I used to
never be able to sleep I was constantly
worried about everything even though
children are never supposed to worry. I
would worry so much that I would walk
around the house all night clean up for my
mum so when she would wake up the house
would be spick and span. Then I would go
to school feeling tired still worrying
feeling guilty that I hadnt done something
right. I used to get into trouble for day
dreaming they would say. Its not uncommon
for young children to have anxiety
problems. I am now 21 and I have been
diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy. I
was untreated with anxiety for my entire
life. I felt sad and sick in my stomach
one day I wentt to the doctors and he said
for me to take zoloft 100 mgs I took that
for 8 days then I had a seizure that
lasted over 40 minutes all I remember is
going to hospital by ambulance since
taking my zoloft I have been an epileptic.
I wonder if my anxietys were epilepsy my
entire life.

Worries Posted: 01-11-04 02:54am
Hello, I am a new user. I had a a major
attack once while I was at my first
outdoor new assignment. There was also
something like what u said regarding about
anxiety.
In one of my consultation at the
specialist visits, I asked him whether
worries has anything to do with the
attacks. His answer was no. I hope that
answers your question. For me, i'm not
sure as worries is still living in part of
my life.
unfortunately, the program on this forum
likes to capitalize letters after periods
(dots). Because of this, if you
click on the link, it will bring up a page
that says "page not found." to get there,
you'll have to copy and paste it but then
change the capital letters to lower case.
It's a good page.
If i'm not mistaken, anxiety is not
uncommon in temporal lobe epilepsy
(especially if the hippocampus and/or
amygdala are involved-- present in both
the right and left temporal lobes). I
believe that the amygdala is the area of
the brain that processes emotions where
the hippocampus is the area that stores
short-term memory. (both are closely
related).

I've been taking zoloft for seven years
and i've been having seizures for about
seven years. I can't recall which came
first, the zoloft or the seizures. I'm
in the process of trying to find that out
now. But I would like to know if you or
anyone else who has had seizures stopped
taking zoloft and if so, was there an
effect on the seizures?
Incidentally i've asked three doctors if
the seizures could be a result of the
zoloft and all three said "no". I've
also been told that I do not have
epilepsy, but my symptoms are exactly as
you and the others describe.

Hi
well I never had fits before I started the
zoloft. I stopped taking the zoloft right
away after I had my first seizures. But I
still have them now and its been like 7
months since. I was prescribed the zoloft
100mg because the doctors thought that I
was suffering from a short term
depression. I was only on the zoloft not
even one week. So it was a pretty fast
reaction to it that my brain had as well
as my body. When I was on it.
I would love to talk to you more about
this.
I like you have also had all the tests and
everything is normal the neuros dont know
what to do with me, they cant say it is
epilepsy and they cant say it isnt. All I
know is that it helps but I still have
seizures on anti convulsant drugs.
Prehaps you could talk to a psychologist
about the effects of zoloft because gps
and stuff dont have a clue.

Anxiety can be a part of the r temporal
lobe epilepsy. When I was a young
teen(!) I would get so scared that I would
freeze in my bed and eventually go lie
down next to my mother's bed because I was
so scared(nothing specific). Often, this
is when you know you are having seizures
(they may not even be visible to you or
others). I've experienced many other
anxious feelings, yet they are way more
complex (combined with the disorder) and I
can't even explain them. With that, I am
fully functioning and never had
anxiety/disorder. I was a regular kid.
