I’m a 25 year old female and get cold
sores around my mouth about once a month
to once every two months and shingles on
my nose!!!
I did get flu related shingles on my
forehead once and the doctor said that if
I had waited a day longer I could have
lost my eye.
I am depressed and on wellbutrin xl and
effexor sr but I actually got them more
when I was off the meds.
I heard somewhere that if you take
elderberry extract (internally) it helps,
recently tried camphor spirit’s
(externally), and I also take l-lysine.
They do seem to have a positive impact…
I have also gotten “samples” of
famvir/valtrex from my doctor but he
doesn’t have anymore so now I am just
suffering! Abreva is good but too
expensive for me to afford.
Does anyone know why I continue to get
these damn outbreaks??
My research seems to indicate that I
shouldn’t be experiencing outbreaks this
frequently until I am over fifty!!!
Thanks for any advice you can give!

Im so sorry you have to go through all
that. I guess you should ask your doctors
for meds. Also I heard that certain foods
can cause more breakouts for cold
sores.....

Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex
virus I and this virus remains in the
body. Outbreaks may be triggered by an of
a number of things: fever, cold, sun or
wind exposure, period, depressed immune
system etc.
Same deal for shingles, once the virus is
in the body it doesn't go away. This
probably the dangerous of the two. It's
painful, may be the cause or one of the
causes of your depression and more
importantly if you have shingles near your
eyes it can cause blindness. Shingles is
brought on with all the above in addition
to emotional stress. Get to the doc and
research supplements to improve your
immune system. :)

Not a Cure But Helping... Posted: 05-20-06 10:38am
I read on some website or another that if
you apply spirit of camphor it will speed
the healing and they were right on the
mark!
Within about 30 hours after applying it
with cotton right to the blisters they
started to shrink and within 48 hours they
were just a plain, ordinary, wound that
has been healing like any other cut or
wound you could get!
It hurts like hell when you apply it but
having to choose between a few moments of
pain and two weeks + of icky, serum
oozing, wounds I choose the momentary
discomfort!
It isn't a "cure" and it didn't stop them
from showing up in the first place but it
healed it in under a week! Now the area
is just red from the healing process!
I hope this helps someone else that is in
the same need as i!
