I'm 17 and i've been getting my period
regularly since i've been 12. However
about 6 months ago for no apparant reason
I started getting it every two weeks. It
was horrible because I get really bad pms,
craps, bloating etc. So my mom finally
brought me to the gyno and they gave me
this aweful hormone that I was supposed to
take for two weeks and see if it would
regulate my period. It made me gain about
10 pounds so now I never want to go on it
again. It did help a little- now I get
it every 3 weeks- but I still get weird
spotting and I want it to be regular
again! They suggested birth control if it
didn't regulate on it's own, but my mom
doesn't really want to get it for me+ i'm
scared it will make me gain about 30 lbs.
I don't know what else to do b/c no one
is being very helpful, and I need advice
please b/c this sucks!!

Most birth control will not make you gain
weight, will regulate your period, will
make cramps less, will make the bleeding
less, and generally will make you happier.
Why don't you want to try it? It's really
the only way to regulate your period. If
you are on a type of birth control that
makes you gain weight, it's easy to switch
to something else! Most women are able to
find a form of birth control that works
very well for them with no awful side
effects.
