Odds of Twins - Anyone Know? Posted: 05-22-06 18:44pm
So my bf and I have been throwing around
the idea of having a baby. I'm a bit
concerned that if we do get pregnant we
might end up having twins. His father
has identical twin brothers, and has
cousins who are twins. My bf also has
cousins who are twins on his father's side
of the family.
Do twins run through a specific genetic
line more than others - such as the
father's or the mother's? What are the
increased odds if there are at least four
sets of identical twins in the last two
generations? Does anyone know?
I'm perfectly fine with having twins, but
if the odds are that much higher
considering the family history, i'm much
more likely to hold off until we can get a
bit more financially stable rather than
spin the wheel and take a chance.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Yahoo news yesterday had an article about
how women who eat a lot of dairy are more
likely to have twins due to the hormones
that that give the cows.

Twins are carried on the maternal side,
except for identical twins, who can just
spring up anywhere.

On the maternal side?? Oh, I had heard
they were carried on the paternal side.
But yeah, I guess that fraternal twins
makes much more sense on the maternal
side. Silly me. Thanks for clearing
that up. I appreciate it.
