Anxiety & Heart Rate
Posted: 05-24-06 11:04am

I have a question. I have a previoius post here that explains my anxiety symptoms. Its happened 2 times already where I wake up in the middle of the night & I feel like I cant catch my breath. Im sleeping so how can I be having shortnes of breath? I took my pulse and its always in the low 60's (61, 63, even once I think 58) im thin and only 5'1 & 22y/o. Im constantly checking my pulse to see what it is? Ive already had an ekg about 4 month ago and it was normal. The doctor listened to my heart about 2 weeka after that for about 2 minutes and said it was fine. She made me take deep breaths, cough, etc. Went to the emergency room back in march because I had tingling in my arms and thought it had to do with my heart. The doctor listened to my heart and said it was fine. I have no chest pain. I just got over thinking I had multiple sclerosis and I promised myself not to be diagnosing myself anymore. How can I get these negative thoughts out of my head? And is that heart rate too low? My mom teels me that im not going to be satisfied until the doctrs tell me that something is wrong with me, and then she says im just going to wait and die. How can I get these thoughts out of my head?

Getting negative thoughts out your head can be difficult. I get them still from time to time, but tell your self this. Tell your self that it is just anxiety and nothing will happen to you. If you really can't get the thoughts out your head tell your self that if you are ill then why do you only get pains and other symtoms when you think about them? When you stop obbsessing about them they go away. When you get a pain or feeling read a book, go for a run, do somthing to take your mind off it. And say to your self "yeh i'm really gonna die! Woah i'm so scared" and it's like your mocking your anxiety and it will ease it. Sounds a bit sill, but try it.

It is nt to low a pulse! The average health pulse is between 50 and 70. When you are sleeping it gets lower still. Some spots people have pulse rates at 30bpm. If you are really concerned get a holter monitor put on for 24 hours and this will record your reading while sleeping.

I had one and my heart rate was 43bpm at one stage not all the time but at my deepest sleep point for around 2 minutes.

A low heart rate is good - if you don't get effected by its lowness, dizzy, passing out etc. It means that your heart only works half as hard as everyone elses and should last twice as long I say!!

Yo know I do get lightheaded a lot, but the doctor told me the reason why it was because anxiety. The past 2 weeks I had been feeling fine but then I got this thing where I felt I had shortness of breath in the middle of the night and know I feel like the lightheadedness came back. I dont know if it came back because im worrying about my hear or im lightheaded because something is wrong with my heart. Also, I dont work out. I just happen to be thin by luck. I know athletes have a low rate but im no athlete. & when try to do jumping jack I feel light headed. I dont know if its in my head though. So im scared to work out because I think right away that im going to get lightheaded :( I just think that a rate of 60, 61 is too low? It used to average about 75 before. Should I be worried? I have a doctors appt. On tuesday. I just know shes goung to brush it off as anxiety. I just cant seem to trust doctors. Should I just accept the fact that its anxiety?
