Need Answers About Preeclampsia Posted: 05-29-06 13:10pm
Ok, I am 30 weeks preg with my first baby.
So far my blood pressure has been fine,
but since about 27 weeks I have begun to
swell considerably, not just at my ankles,
but my arms, hands, face, legs,
lips...Sometimes it does go down but it
always comes back. They have also found
trace amounts of protein in my urine, but
they say that is fine.
What I want to know is, are all these
symptoms any indication that I am going to
develop preeclampsia? Should my doctor's
be more concerned about my swelling? Or
am I just over paranoid and this is just
how my body handles pregnancy?
Any advice would help, thanks!

My doctors were really concerned because I
had bad swelling in my feet, hands and
face. But when I did the 24 hr. Urine
test I didn't have any protein in it ...
Over the last few weeks my blood pressure
has been high so they think i'm develpoing
pre-eclampsia. I have to be induced on
thursday bcuz of it .. I'm 39 weeks tho.
But anyways it seems like your doctors
should be more concerned...U should talk
to them about it bcuz its a very dangerous
disease to you and ur baby.........

Thanks malinda,
i actually just went to the doctor
yesterday and my blood pressure was high,
but still only trace amounts of protein in
my urine. I have gained 15lbs in 3
weeks, and it is all swelling, and finally
they are concerned. I am taking my blood
pressure at work (i work in a hospital)
everyday, and I am supposed to call if it
is over a certain number, also I have to
come in next wednesday to see my swelling
and check my urine again.
I hope this isn't preeclampsia, when did
you first start having problems? I am so
worried about my baby...
Thanks

I had pre-eclampsia and then developed
eclampsia with my first pregnancy. It
all started with the swelling of the
ankles, feet and moved on to the
hands/fingers and the neck and face. If
you start to swell and when you relax and
it doesn't go down you need to keep your
doctor informed. I'd keep him on speed
dial.
Other things that you need to look out for
are
1) feeling faint and/or dizzy.
2) having a really bad headach
3) seeing spots....Large black spots that
screw your vision up
4) not being able to urninate properly
5) contractions/early labor
6) epigastric pain (spelling)
7) water retension
my blood pressure was like 205/112 and it
was so bad that they wouldn't let me out
of the hospital and my blood count went
down so badly that I almost needed a blood
transfusion.
The only releaf of this is delivering the
child. If it gets too bad you will need
to deliver in order to make you better.
But look on the bright side your little
skoot is over that hump....If he is
delivered now or anytime from here on out
he/she has a good chance of living.

Sunflower~
thanks for the info...This past friday I
started feeling really weird, some of the
symptoms you mentioned, I called my dr and
left work to go see him and my blood
pressure was 184/84....They admitted me
and monitored me and the baby and let me
go home on bed rest
i went back to the dr today and my blood
pressure is still up but nowhere near as
high, I am on bed rest until the end of
the pregnancy and I have to go in every
week now to see the Dr...
Thanks again for your info, I may have
ignored the symptoms I was having had you
not have listed them out for me the way
you did, honestly in the moment I knew
something wasn't right I thought of your
post and that is why I called the
Dr...This forum is awesome and it really
works...I really appreciate the time you
took for me to give me advice, hope all is
well with you and your preg...
Take care

I am sorry that you have to be on bedrest

your baby it's the best thing for you
both. I always tell myself when in doubt
call my doctor.
I'll be praying for you and your skoot to
have a safe pregnancy from here on out and
a wonderful delivery. Keep me posted,
i'd love to see picts of the baby once
he/she comes.
Again I am glad that everything is going
ok for you.
