Insomnia

Ill start off by saying that I am 17 years old and graduating from high school in about a week. I am going to live in my dorm room in college in august but lately I dont know what it has been that has me down like this. I stay up till about 1 or 2 in the morning and I wake up at 5 or earlier and just stay up until I have to get up and go to school. It hasnt been like this before, before I used to over sleep and be tired by 11. Im not sure whats going on but I know its not good. I dont want this to follow me to college and definetly not follow me through the summer. I dont think that I am an insomniac but it could be mild. I really hope that no one out there has to suffer like this. What should I do?

Hello, im 19, I suffer the same way. I have insomia. I suffered from it for years, but it got worse after taking lexapro, a antidepressant. I go to bed 1 or 2. And wake up all hours of the night, and can't sleep.. Then when I finally get to sleep I sleep soooo late.. It drives me nuts. Try melatonin.

Its safe natural. It helps me sometimes. Heres some more info from a site.. Love metallee

melatonin is the all-natural nightcap. It's secreted by the pineal gland, a pea-size structure at the center of the brain, as our eyes register the fall of darkness.

"at night melatonin is produced to help our bodies regulate our sleep-wake cycles. The amount of it produced by our body seems to lessen as we get older. Scientists believe this may be why young people have less problem sleeping than older people.

"studies suggest that... Supplements can hasten sleep and ease jet lag, without the hazards or side effects of prescription sleeping pills."

it may have many other uses and has been reported to make people feel better, strengthen the immune system, and reduce free radicals in the body. Current research is underway to determine it's effect as an anti-oxidant, immno-modulator in cancer, delayed sleep-phase disorders, and jet lag. Tests are still under way so there is much to still be learned about it and its effects on the human body. Travelers and people suffering from mild sleep disorders.

According to the article, a typical comment from discussion groups on the internet is, "'folks, i've tried it and it's great. It has ...Restored my sleep cycle, given me lots of energy.'" (6 nov. 1995, p. 60-63)

It sounds like its stress related like maybe you have something on your mind... Often change can be quite worrying and it might be worth talking it through with someone even if you think its insignificant...

Im almost your age and I used to suffer from nights off no sleep... The most important thing to do is take some time away from screens before u go to bed have like 30 mins of just chilled time to let your body shut down before sleep...

Obviously keeping away from caffeine 3 hours before sleep can also help... Anything coke, tea and definately coffee...

Umm.... Maybe putting on relaxing music may help you or even meditating or taking a shower or bath before you sleep...

The most important thing is not to worry about it... Put it out of your head because thinking about not sleeping as your going off to sleep isnt helpful because u just tell yourself your not going to be able to sleep and it happens.

Another thing that might be the problem is getting out of your sleep pattern... Make sure you go to bed around the same time everynight and try to have a routine maybe something along the lines of whats above and stick to it even at the weekends and the problem should improve.

Ultimately if the problem continues to occur it would be wise to go and see the doctor and he'll give u better advice then me :p what I wrote above helped me and hopefully it will do the same for you.

Try not to worry about it too much and if you want any further help then just pm me...
