Stopping the Pill

Is it safe to just stop taking the pill?
I know some meds are dangerous to your
health if you do this but is it the same
with birth control? I was on seasonale
for a little over a month the forth week I
started my period and vomited when I
didn't stop bleeding after 5 days I
started to worry because all my periods
have never been longer than 4 i'm still
bleeding real light (its been 10 days
since I started) and I quite taking the
pills two days ago hoping this would stop
the bleeding I don't have the money to go
to my dr and I don't want to call because
I know he'll want me to come in. As soon
as I stop i'm going to talk to my county
health dept about the depo shot because I
won't have to pay as much and hopefully I
won't have to deal with the random
bleeding. Could someone shed some light
on stopping the pill??

There;s no medical reason to stop taking
the pill but if you do not want to become
pregnant then you will have to use condoms
or another form of contraception.
Spotting (light bleeding) is normal when
you take the pill. It can be annoying but
it can happen with any kind of
contraception. I'd speak to your doctor
and ask for another method, it took me a
while before I found the right
contraception but it will be out there for
you.
Good luck

Thanks for the reply. My husband and I
have been thinking of different forms of
birthcontrol I was just reading posts on
the depo shot but it seems like its not a
good idea long term. We really don't like
using condoms but until we can find
something that will work for the best then
thats going to have to do we have two
babies and my youngest is almost 3 months.
(we don't really want anymore kids) my
bleeding I think is finally starting to
stop today has been lighter than before
and i'm really hoping to just get back to
normal I don't want to do anything as
drastic as getting my tubes tied and I
don't think my husband wants to get
snipped so I might just go back to the
ortho tricylon that I was on a few years
ago and hope I don't gain anymore weight.

The problem with depo is mainly that if
you decide you want to try to get pregnant
it can take up to a year following yur
last injection for your fertility levels
to reach what they were pre injection.
Also, you have to have it every three
onths which can be a problem (also I had
alot of spotting whilst on it but each
person differs)
have you thought about a coil? I have an
ius (mirena) which is a hormonal
contraceptive, placed into your womb and
it works for 5years. My periods have
totally stopped and, other than mild
cramping when it was first inserted, it's
been fantastic. Http://www.Mirena.Com/htm
l/index.Html. If you decded you
wanted to ttc your fertility levels are
back to what they were immediately after
removal of it. It's progesterone only so
the weight gain isn't usually a problem on
po methods.
There is also a non hormonal copper iud,
although I don't know much about this as
it's unsuitable for myself.

I don't really trust anything like an iud
because my mom got pregnant with me while
she had one i'm not saying it would happen
to me but that's always in the back of my
mind. Another thing is I can't afford
something like that I was on medicaid but
they took me off like a week ago so now I
have to find something at the health dept
because they give me a huge discount i'm
still thinking about my options and trying
to find one that's right I may end up
getting my tubes tied my friend went
through the health dept and only had to
pay $5!! But that's a last resort

Actually abortion is not an option with me
everyone has their own opinion and mine
is: I don't want to kill my own baby if
god wants me to have another baby and I am
taking birth control or not it's god's
will and I will take full responsibity god
knows whats best for me. My life and my
family's life is in his hands not my own
i'm sorry but it makes me sick to my
stomach that people can't take
responsibity for their actions unless they
were raped....I could understand that but
if you don't want a baby don't have sex if
you do and are taking birthcontrol well
accidents happen but don't punish a human
for your mistake

I work in an abortion clinic and do birth
control counselling, so when I give advice
here I will give all options for women to
consider because we do have the right.
I am simply saying that no birth control
is 100%... So regardless what you do you
can get pregnant, what you choose to do
about pregnancy is your business, I am
only here to educate.

Hey I respect what your doing I just
thought I would let you know how I felt.
Everyone has opinions and can make their
own choices thats fine this is my choice
to respect my god I don't want to judge
anyone because everyone has a different
situation and what they do is none of my
business sometimes its just hard to
understand that people do it not everyone
wants kids and I understand that but can't
they at least give the baby to someone who
does want one? My sister had an abortion
when she was 13 she told my parents she
was raped but I know different I think
even if they did know they would still
make that same decision for her cuz of her
age I don't want to raise my childrens
children either but if I have to I will
help as much as I can you know I think
abortion has been pushed in people's faces
just because of "pro choice" i'm sure
everyone knows its an option now I mean
look I started off asking about my
bleeding during seasonale and now i'm
talking about abortion??? There is a
difference between birth control and
abortion i'm just trying to find the right
birth control method for me

Depo does'nt cause all women to stop
bleeding, and some women actually spot and
bleed lightly for 2 weeks after they get
their shot. Women also can bleed
everyday, which can be remedied by using
estrogen pills of course.
Seasonale is known to cause 'abnormal
bleeding' the first few months you use it
to skip periods, that is a known side
effect that usually dissipates by the
2nd-3rd month. The bleeding you described
was not dangerous, although I understand
that it was bothersome.
Have you considered giving seasonale a try
again and keep taking it for 3-6
months?Only then will you actually know if
your bleeding pattern will improve.

I did consider staying on it but when I
first had the prescription filled I was on
medicaid and I didn't realize how much it
would cost. They took me off the coverage
so now anything I get I will have to pay
for and seasonale is pretty expensive I
think its like $195+ for 3 months and I
really can't afford that i'm trying to
talk my husband into getting a vasectomy
because it would be easier for him to go
through than me have surgery to get my
tubes tied or pump my body full of
hormones I wish it was easier but
unfortunately its not next time I get a
chance i'm going to go to the health dept
and talk to them about more options

You can also try planned parenthood, they
may have more options than your health
department and they have sliding scale
fees as well. You can get pills through
them for a lot cheaper than $195 for 3
months.
Birth control pills have side effects like
the break through bleeding. I'm amazed
doctors don't give more advice out about
the side effects! Until your body adjusts
to the hormones, you can experience
spotting/bleeding for up to 6 months.
There are other birth control pills on the
market - all with varying degrees of side
effects. You may just have to find what
works best for you.
I feel so fortunate we live in times of
being able to choose birth control and
other options. Can you imagine if we had
to be slaves to our fertility?
Good luck in your ongoing quest!

Stopped Taking the Pill

Hi,i had my period and it lasted for a
week, then I stopped taking my birth
control pill.( 28 day cycle) I had
protected sex but the condom broke. Then
2 days later I started spotting. I
thought I was pregnant so I called planned
parenthood and said that it was my period
since I just came off the pill. She was
right because later on that night I got my
period. It lasted for about like 6 days.
So technically I got my period 2wice in
one month. Now my periods been ended for
about a week and a half, my boobs hurt
like hell. I have been pregnant 2wice
before and I no how bad they feel during
early stages of pregnancy. They do feel
like I am pregnant but I dont no how it
would be possible because after the condom
broke I got my period. I have also been
nauseas but how so early? Its way to
early to feel like anything. Whats going
on?!

Try taking an early response pregnancy
test, and definately continue to use
condoms!
You need to know that after you finish
birth control your cycle may take a few
months to get back to normal, it does'nt
go back immediately for all women.

But it would probobly only be like 2 and a
half weeks in if it even were possible. I
thought tests could only be a true result
from 3 and ahalf weeks. Is it even
possible since I got my period normally
after the condom broke?

Yeah it is possible i've heard of women
having a period the first month of their
pregnancy my friend even had hers till she
was 5 months she knew something was wrong
so she went to the doctor and they told
her she had a tumor turned out she was
pregnant why they didn't test her is a
mystery but it is possible I would take a
test and if you still question the results
go to your doctor and take a blood test
then you'll know for sure
