Am I Depressed? *please Reply*
Posted: 06-02-06 05:26am

Hello~
im 16, and constantly in a state of worry.. I cant shake the feeling that I have a serious illness(usually cancer) and every lumb bump or ache I feel, sends me into a spin. I cant stop thimking that I have cancer and that im going to die young. My gran is fighting breast cancer and this may be a influence to my worry but it is driving me crazy. I think about cancer every day.
''what if??''
''it must be cancer, what else could it be??''
I convince myself that I have cancer in numerous places, I have been the doctor numerous times about lumps that I may find and he has said there is nothung to worry about regarding my health. But I still cant shake the thought I have cancer..
Is this depression? Anxiety? Hyperchondria??
Im driving myself crazy with worry.
Please help, I dont know what to do.. :(

thanks
kd

Can I ask a question? Have you been tested for ocd (obsessive compulsive disorder)? The reason i'm asking is because my brother in law has this and he does the same thing you are doing. There's alot more involved that just worrying about having something wrong though. Is anything else going on? Feel free to send me a private message if you need to talk :)

Hi king it sounds like health anxiety is your main problem and if you have ocd also that just makes it worse. I'm in a cbt group right now and it is teaching me how not to worry so much which helps a great deal with all my depression etc. They say the way you process your fears is what causes anxiety and depression and the further I get into my group the more I am believing them because I have made a lot of progress with the exercises they have taught me. Get some help.
