Is Occasional Spotting an Indicator of Menopause? Posted: 06-05-06 14:37pm
My periods normally last 2 days and are
regular as clockwork, this month all I've
had is occassional spotting of old dark
blood. This has lasted for 9 days so far
starting just after my period was due. I
dont have any of the usual symptoms I get
while menstrating. Could this be the
beginning of the menopause?

No, it doesn't seem that you are
describing the beginning of menopause. The
beginning of menopause is considered to
occur after a period when you don’t
experience menstruation for more than a
year. Previous to this time, menstruations
become rare. It seems likely that this
spotting is caused by another reason;
perhaps an organic cause (tumor,
infection). I recommend you visit your
gynecologist to identify the cause of
spotting.
