Gallbladder? I'm At My Wits End.
Posted: 06-06-06 21:50pm

I started with nausea about 2 1/2 weeks ago, pretty severe that the thought of food made me want to go throw up. That slowly has dissipated only over the past few days but now I have a constant pain where my gall bladder is. It's waking me up at night..Sometimes it dulls but it never completely dissapears. I've had two ultrasounds and numerous blood work tests and both have come back perfect. Which is not suprising b/c my blood work was perfect before I was rushed in for an emergency appendectomy. In fact i've never had bad blood work at all. I have a history of tachycardia, mitral valve prolapse and migraines. I've been to the er three times in the past 2 weeks for this and have gotten a different answer everytime, one time..I didn't even really get an answer. I was told heartburn, I know what heartburn feels like, its' not heartburn, and then I was told constipatition, however my bowels are completely normal and i've gone atleast once everyday, normal stools. Maybe a little lighter than usual but thats it. They said that my x-ray showed stools in the lower right quadrant and that maybe they weren't able to get passed scar tissue from my appendectomy in january. However, on the discharge papers he put constipation. If he thought I had a blockage he would have admitted me, not sent me on my merry way with more pain medicine. Then it was so bad that I went back again last night, and begged for an emergency hida scan, although i'm pretty sure it's going to be normal, thats the way things seem to go with me. And the dr again diagnosed me with, "abdominal pain" how can that even be a diagnosis? Thats the symptom!!!! I feel like I know more than these doctors do, and thats scary! I don't like taking pain medicine..And she said, "well its' going to be a long 2 weeks until your hida scan if you don't take pain medicine" I saw a gi on monday, the nurse practitioner, and she ordered the hida scan scheduled for the 16th! Then, I have a follow up with the real dr, on the 28th. My problem is that i'm scheduled to go the hatteras, nc on july 15th. Even if I could get surgery tomorrow I would not be healed.
Sorry it's so long, and not very well thought out. I'm just very angry right now. As of right now my course of action will be to follow through with my hida, get my results do my follow up and in my perfect world I would hear that its my gallbladder and have it removed after vacation. But i'm pretty sure i'll hear you're fine, blah blah lbha you're too young. And then I will have to schedule with a surgeon myself.
I'm so confused & angry. I don't trust any of the doctors i've seen. I feel like my gallbladder is going to blow up. It hurts worse than my appendix. The only good news i've heard is when the pa said, it's dfeintly your gallbladder that's causing the pain. But thats it!
Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated. I've read other numerous posts where every test was normal & then when they finally had it removed the gall bladder was diseased.
Thank you,
krystle.

Ps. My appendectomy was open surgery, and my symptoms were very akward for it. I actually saw the same np 4 days before my surgery b/c I was having severe stomach problems for about a month prior. Everything I ate would either come up or down within minutes. I had narrowed down what I could eat to turkey and mcdonalds (go figure). My appendix was in the wrong spot, hence the open surgery. The gastro np was like haven't I seen you before..I was like yeah, you said, "give it a month we don't want to do anything invasive" and then I told her about my surgery and she was like, "i feel really bad" I think thats the only reason she even schedule the hida, because she screwed up before! She wasn't even aware that an appendix could be in the wrong spot.
I just want to scream!

Update..

Well 4 weeks ago I went to see the real gi doctor, who is supposed to be a really good doctor for my area. He said, and I quote..
"i really don't know whats wrong with you."

i just stared at him. I'm still in almost constant pain under my right rib closer to the middle of my chest than the right. This is ridiculous. He gave me robinul to try for 4-6 weeks and then I go back for a follow up, that is the week after next. I asked him all sorts of questions about gall bladders and it still being bad with normal results. He said even if allt ests are normal if it's inflammed the ejection fraction is still low. He thinks it's a colon problem ( I dont!) and the robinul was supposed to help with that...Guess what, it hasn't!

I'm thinking of suggesting the exploratory laproscopic surgery..But I dont know if he'll go for it. I'm so tired of all of this. It's not the pain that's so bad, but it's the persistance, the fact that the pain is always there.

Which is why he doesn't think its my gb b/c it's not really related to food.

Ugh..This whole thing sucks!

My hida was in the upper 80% I believe. He said that if I just had inflammation which is possible that you generally dont have a 80% function with that. My body has always been very wierd, and I know when something is wrong, and i'm never to the book for how symptoms should be.
I go back this week, adn i'm asking for a referral toa surgeon to see what the surgeon says.

I think you should just take that damn thing out it's been causing you so many problems for a while and no one is listening. You know your own body better than anyone else. Lets us know what the surgeon says. I don't know if you remember me I am the one with the 14% ejection fraction. Well I had it out wednesday and healing up nicely. So far I am able to eat what I want with no problems. Good luck with everything.

Haha I Wish

I wish they would just take the thing out!! He still thinks it's my colon, upped my dosage of an atispasmotic, which i'm not taking (robinul) because it doesn't chagne anything. I've treid 3 antispasmotics, and 3 different acid reflux meds. It has pressure all the time on my right side, and then I will get the really bad pain. I know their is something wrong. I have to go to the surgeon next tuesday because I have a pilonidal cyst, which is actually gone away but they want me to see a surgeon just incase it flares up again so I already have an established relationship. I'm seeing the surgeon who did my appendix in january I really like him. I'm going to bring my gallbladder up to him and see what he says. It can't hurt and if i'm paying him I want to hear his opinion.

Thanks!
