Im getting ready to go back on the depo shot... I'm scared because i've heard that women will become sterile after using the depo shot... I've been on it before but quit because of the rapid weight gain... But now that i'm sexually active again I want it... Will I become sterile... Im only 18 and I want children in the future... Some facts/info and answers would realy make me feel better thanks!!! :d

I would totaly not advise you to get on it again I really regret ever having the shot. I've been off of it since nov. I've only have had one period and me and my boyfriend have been trying for baby number two since then, I got pregnant in feburary but ended up haveing an ectopic pregnancy that ended in a miscarrige, the doctors said I could have had some of the shot left in my system. So my advise for you would be not to get back on it, it's really bad for you body, the whole two years I was on it, I had no period what so ever. So if I have to I will get on my knees and beg you .P.L.E.A.S.E. D.O.N.T. Get back on it

It can take up to a year after the last injection for your fertility levels to return and for your periods to get back to how they were pre-depo but it wont make you permanently sterile.

Yep - it can take up to a year after getting off of any birth control - depo or just the pill to get pregnant again.

I'm surprised your doctor didn't tell you about that after you tried to get pregnant so soon after coming off of the depo shot.

Sometimes it takes people longer to get pregnant. Becoming sterile off of the depo shot is a myth. With any birth control it can take you a while to get pregnant.

I wouldn't say so much of taking a year to get pregnant after coming off of the pill. My first month off of the pill I got pregnant. If it's such a myth then why do the doctors make you sign a peice of paper saying that you wont sue them if anything like that happens?

Well you are definately one of the few that that's happened to. The norm is that you can't get pregnant for a while off of the pill or shot. Obviously it's possible, but for the majority of women that doesn't happen. I mean, people can get pregnant while on the pill itself, so it's certainly possible for people to get pregnant after stopping.

Yeah I guess I was luck enough to get pregnant I just wish I was lucky enough that I could have kept it. But it ended up being ectopic. But we are still trying soo fingers crossed. Well I have read and talked to someone that has gotten pregnant on the shot. The whole two years I was on it I never had a period.
