How Long Did U Work Til U Went On Sick/mat Leave? Posted: 06-10-06 22:44pm
Hey ladies...K I know its lame but im in
managment and mc dix :p and im on my feet
all day and working like 7..8..Hr shifts 5
days a week and im just so bagged and
tired, and its just so hard! Im 25 weeks
prego and its nice cuz its like a work out
lol but I just dont think I can do it much
ne more :s . I live in bc and u need 600
hrs for maternity leave and ill have them
by the end of this week, and I can take 15
weeks sick leave, and then start maternity
and parental leave. Which gives me a
total of like 65 weeks hehe. Cuz im doing
it the smart way. And if I leave in 2
weeks for starting my "sick" leave the 15
weeks will end the week after my due date
and then my mat. Leave will kick in.
So..Im kinda thiking of just leaving in a
couple weeks...But I mean, I would like to
stay til like the beginning of august. (
im due sept 19) but I cant belive how hard
it is to work now :s so wat do u think?
What did u do ? Input would be great.
Thanks ladies!

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you.
I work 40+ hours a week, and 90% of the
work I do is on my feet. My baby's not
due until august 8, so I was planning on
working through most of july, but it's
gotten so difficult to move around. I was
actually put on bed rest for this week by
my doctor, who's trying to convince me to
take maternity leave now. I'll tell you
the same thing she told me. If you feel
like you can still work, work. If you
feel like you can no longer do it, don't
force yourself. Just be warned... You
might get *bored* with so much free time
on your hands! Good luck hon.

I work in healthcare as a nuclear medicine
tech, which I know sounds crazy but I do
things like stress tests of the heart and
bone scans if you have heard of that...
Anyways, I am due august 5th and I was
planning on working my full 40+ hours a
week until I had my baby, and it has been
getting soooo hard. I have been swelling
a lot and my blood pressure is rising so
my boss put me on desk work mostly, but
that is still stressful and I ended up
being admitted to the hospital this past
friday because of my blood pressure. I
am now on bed rest and I go back to the
doc on monday to see if this bed rest is
permanent or what I do from here...
But my point is, you know your body. Just
because someone else you work with was
fine til she delivered doesn't mean you
will be, I have been pushing myself way
too hard and knowing that my baby could be
in distress friday when I was admitted was
so awful, I cried all day...But he is
fine...Just trust your body to tell you
what to do...
Take care and g'luck

I work at a restuarant, and i'm on my feet
allllll day. So my last day is tomorrow.
I'll be 25 weeks.
I just can't handle it anymore, my feet
are swelling, and my belly hurts from
walking all day. And the fact that my
managers aren't really sympathetic, and
don't let me eat if i'm hungry...Or let me
sit down if my feet hurt. So i'm outta
there.
I was getting random pains (i am a
student) so I got put on bedrest at 6
monthish.

I planned to work till a month before my
due date but found that by the time I was
7months pg I was getting too tired so I
started taking wednesdays off work, it was
brilliant as I only had to do 2 days then
had a day off and during the last couple
of weeks I didnt start work till 9:30 - 10
and finished anywhere from 2 - 4 in the
afternoon (much eaiser than working 8 - 5)
if your boss is flexable enough you could
try something like that. I didn't want to
finish too early as I didn't want to be
sitting around home getting impatient .

I am due at the end of august and plan on
being gone by the beginning of august..
Maybe sooner, we'll see. I don't have a
physically strenuous job, but it is very
stressful, and i've had a few days lately
where I just didn't think I was going to
last much longer. The time off before the
baby comes will be nice, and I can
guarantee you I have enough to do so that
I won't get bored. Lol. Besides, i'm
just now starting a freelance gig so I
will actually have *some* work to do,
though it will be limited and I will be
able to do it from home.

Well im glad im not the only one out there
that is like sore and swollen lol. Im
gunna go to my doc. When I have all of my
600 hrs that I need for mat leave , and
hand it into work and then slow things
down a bit, I mean id lov eto work like
3/4 days a week but then again my wage for
mat leave is based on the 3/4 days a week
so yah. Medical leave and then matleave
after baby comes sounds good to me ..

I had to stop working at 7 1/2 months
cause I did not fit behind my desk
anymore. And I was so swollen I could
barely walk.

I work a desk job and I am due august 7th.
The parking lot is huge and if you don't
get here at like 7 am there isnt' a good
spot for the parking and the long walk
into the building just kills me. The
only good thing about it is that once I
get to my desk I can sit and relax for the
rest of the day. My boss got me a
printer at my desk and the faxes are all
done over the computer so I really dont'
have to get up for nothing (except to
potty of course and if I could i'd move my
desk to the bathroom door. Lol) but the
walk thru the parking lot is just too
much. Since my husband passed I really
have to work until she is born....But then
i'll have 12 weeks off to be with her. I
am just looking at the goal and that is
why I get up 5 mornings out of the week.

I'm going to work until i'm 34 weeks.
That's when we're moving and while we're
just moving a few towns over and I could
still work where I am now, i'd rather get
our new place ready and set everything up
for the baby. While I love where I work
and everyone I work with, I can't wait for
those weeks before the baby comes where I
can just relax and be lazy.
