I recently went to the gyn and got birth
control pills. (lo/ovral...To be
specific) i'm waiting for my next period
to begin the pills. I don't know how
other bc pills work, but with this one you
wait till the sunday after your period
starts to start the pills.
Anyway...I read the info sheet in the pill
packet and it said you should use back up
protection (ie condoms, spermicide) for
the first 7 days after you take the first
pill.
So I have two questions...
First...Does this mean that with every
cycle I need to use backup for the first 7
days, or only when I start using the
pill?
Second...The doctor said that I should
wait for a full cycle until the pill is
completely effective, but the info leads
me to believe that it is effective after
one week.
I just want to make sure that I am doing
this right. And just about me...I am 19
and in a trusting, loving relationship,
and we feel that we are ready to take away
the barrier of condoms.
Thanks

The leaflet means to use protection for
only the first 7 days you've started bc.
But I would follow your doctors advice
instead and use extra protection for a
full cycle, just to make sure that you are
as covered as your going to be by your bc.

The leaflet is correct that it is
effective in 7 days, and every month you
do not have to wait!

Thanks for the replies, but I got a yay
and a nay. Anymore insight? How
effective would the bc be after the first
7 days? Completely effective? If not
would spermicide help after the first
week?
