Natural Childbirth Anyone? Or Is That Just Crazy... Posted: 06-13-06 16:55pm
I am 32 weeks preg with my first, and I
was thinking the whole time I wanted the
labor and delivery to be completley
natural and medication free...However now
I am on bed rest and I know that I am prob
going to have to be induced early, and now
that is right around the corner and I am
just not sure...
I just wanted some advice from someone who
has been there...Thanks :)

I only had a small amount of gas straight
after the midwife broke my waters to get
things moving, as soon as she done that I
dialated 4cm in an hour (ouch) but as soon
as I could push, the gas just got in the
way. I was really proud that I only had
the gas and I could imagine how good it
would feel to go without anything. If you
think you can do I go for it. Sorry im
not much help, I just wanted to say that
you are brave for wanting to do it drug
free!!

I had all three of mine natural, with no
pain relief and I was able to cope and be
more aware of my body and what was
happening to it,with my youngest I had to
be induced by using a pessary and the
contractions seemed more intense.Its not
as bad as people think and your body goes
into overdrive xx

Hey there I had all three of my girls drug
free and the first two were induced. The
pain was intense yes but it was also
something amazing knowing that I was tough
enough to get through it. My husband was
there and he really supported me, telling
me how proud he was. I had a wonderful
birth experience with all three. I'm
especially grateful I wasn't drugged for
my middle child she had some issues and
had to go to the nicu shortly after and I
was able to get up very quickly and be
with her.
So I think you can do it, no reason not to
try women have been doing for centuries
drug free.
Edited to add that my middle child
required bed rest as well and it didn't
seem to make it any harder.
Good luck to you and your baby. :)

Hey there. Well im due in september and
im still thinking about having a natural
child birth...Still not sure. Anways I
thought id let you know that my mom had 7
children all natural. I was the baby of
them all and once she had me they then
gave her drugs for getting her tubes tied.
Its painful but my mom always told us how
it was worth it.

They say to look at it like a wave and
with each wave and current you get nearer
to the beach.Lol,i just went into myself
and lent against the wall basically doing
push ups with my heads, although by the end
of it my calves were rock hard and shaking
I had my daughter all natural and she was
9lbs 10ozs and I felt all of it, I loved
the feeling that I felt her come into this
world but if your not that strong get the
medication it all right

I totally agree with emaril!!! I had my
daughter without any medical intervention.
(no epi, and no iv) no nothing. The
feeling of feeling your childs toes come
out of you is something I will never
forget. Next time, i'm gonna do a water
birth. I could've done this one at home
being that she came so quickly.
I had cramps all day, got to the hospital
at 5pm at 5cm. And I had her a 7:58pm.
She was here within 3 hours. So my next
labor, I need to get there asap. Or maybe
i'll just do it at home.
You need to go in with a birth plan and
know exactly what you want. I knew I
didn't want any medical intervention and
the nurses were shocked, but they had to
comply. I am so young so they figured i'd
change my mind. But I didn't!!
You can do it girl, women are made to
birthe children drug free!!

I *almost* gave birth without pain relief.
I had my daughter an hour after my
epidural, after 30+ hours of labor. The
pain wasn't bad at *all* (just
uncomfortable) until I hit the transition
stage. I lasted about 4 hours with
intense pain before giving in, and if I
had known the birth was so close, I
wouldn't have gotten the epidural.
It's all a matter of mind over body! I
really think I could have done it if I had
been better rested (only had 5 hours of
sleep over 48 hours), and I almost did it
regardless. Just keep an open mind and
try to deal with the pain as it comes.
You can probably handle a lot more pain
than you think you can! Good luck!

I had 3 of my children drug free, the
first, they induced me and I was in hard
labor for 18 loooooooong hours..
With the last one, I had an epideral..
And it was .H.E.A.V.E.N !!!! I felt ever
urge to push!! It as awesome.. I was
sitting up and watched him come out ! I
even said hi to him when his little head
popped out!! I wouldn't have dreamed of
doing this before, too freaking much pain!
.Lol.. But the down side is.. I
couldn't get up and take a shower right
away, which totally ticked me off.. They
said I had to wait till the epideral wore
off.. Don't know why, if I would have
fallen, I could have just did the army
crawl thing to the bathroom. Lol...But my
butt itched like crazy when it was wearing
off.. Good luck to you!! No matter which
choice you make, it will be the right one
! Dont' fret ! :p
I agree again with everyone..... But dont
let anyone persuade you into doing
something that you dont want to do.......
The nurses tries to get me to take the epi
but evrytime I refused, they thought I was
crazy given how large my child was going
to be.... It was painful but I had my mom
by my side and I got through it 16 long
hours but it was a joyful moment she came
out all at one time.......................
But dont do something that u dont want to
if you want medication they have other
options than the epi if you dont want
that......... But if you want the epi
hell if you aint afraid of needles go for
it but with all said and done good luck on
whatever choice that you do make as long
as your child comes out healthy who cares
what medication you took
