I Would Appreciate Some Information About My Problem Posted: 01-14-04 11:05am
I was in a car accident a few years back.
I broke my front tooth and the dentist
bonded the corner where it broke. Well
the past 6 years it breaks again at least
twice a year. The last time I went to
have it repaired was in the beginning of
dec 2003. Well I am not sure that it is
related but the last few days when I wake
up my teeth are fine when my mouth is
closed. However as the day goes on it
seems like when I bite down my bottom fron
teeth are hitting the back of my top front
tooth. It is annoying and is starting to
cause pain in my front tooth. I have no
idea why this is happening and I thought
if I ignored it, it would go away. No
such luck, I made an appt. With the
dentist and I feel like I am going to the
dr for a paper cut. Does anyone have
any suggestions why my teeth are doign
this, is it normal? It hasn't happend to
me ever before. Thanks!

It sounds like your bite was thrown off at
the time of the car accident. It is
possible that you have neck injuries
resulting from the car accident that are
causing you to hold your head differently
than you were before the accident. This
"new" head posture is going to and will
cause your teeth to come together
differently than before. Over time you
will probably clench or grind your teeth
(probably at night while you are asleep
and unconscious) trying to get them in a
position that is comfortable for your jaw
joint and chewing muscles. For more
information due a search on neuromuscular
dentistry. There is a lot of information
out there on this topic....It's been
around since the 1970's... Pm me for more
info if ya want. Good luck!!
