I am a nurse and I very much agree with .Mary, you cannot hide it forever and you could do some serious damage. Talk to your Dr. A.S.A.P.
You should never hide this from your dr you need to get in and start your pre-natal visit!

Whatever "personal reasons" you might have for not telling your doctor, they surely can't be more important than your baby's health. You should tell your doctor *immediately* that you're pregnant. The medication you're taking could seriously damage your unborn child. Put things into perspective. Your child's health should be your top priority. Whatever is going on in your life, this isn't just about you anymore... You have a small one to think about now. Put your baby first and tell your doctor, consequences be damned.

Here in uk, we usually get told the only thing that is safe to take during pregnancy is paracetomol. I understand these are medications that help control your symptoms so I think (but don't quote me on this) that they gradually wean you off it or reduce the dose as it can be harmful to just take you off it straightaway.
Either way you need to see your dr asap.
Good luck!

are you saying your doctor will take your baby? Why on earth would that happen?

Here are some links. You need to see a doctor.

I think you need to get to your doctor right away. The medication that worries me is the valproate for your epilepsy. It can be bad during pregnancy, but having seizures would be just as bad. You need to go and get re-evaluated and perhaps have a change of epilepsy meds which are safer for the baby....But you do need to be on something.

Good lluck

Whoa! They take your kids in the uk if you have bipolar disorder (is that the mental illness you were talking about?) they don't do that here...

First of all, if they are going to take your baby away from you in the end anyway what is the difference in telling your doctor now or later. You need to keep yourself healthy and by just stopping your meds isnt' the way to do that. However at the same time if you are going to have a baby and it's going to be taken away you need to make sure that the baby is going to be healthy for the person that is going to take it.

I know it sounds harsh but just because you are scared that the baby is going to be taken away from you, you still need to take care of yourself and the baby just the same. Who knows they may find you stable enough now to have the baby and take care of it. But you need to see a doctor right away, don't self diagnos and self medicate

Must Get to a Doctor
I was being gentle in my response earlier. Valproic acid is one of the worst medications a pregnant woman can take. It is classified as either a category d or x by the fda in the us, meaning that it causes birth defects more times than it doesn't. I know this because I am a pharmacist and have studied medications in pregnancy. You must talk to your doctor about this and weigh your options carefully. My husband's cousin is on valproic acid (valproate) and got pregnant and her child has a lot of problems...Legally blind, some form of cerebral palsy and more. They are not sure the extent of his health conditions because he is just under one year old. So please, for your health and the health of your baby, go see a doctor. Sorry this sounds harsh, but you must have all the facts before you decide to continue to harm this baby.

Good luck,
leslie

Elkie, our concern is for your well being. By completely discontinuing your meds, that doesn't help take care of you.

I understand you want to hide your pregnancy, but you know you cannot hide your pregnancy very long. And what is the use of you being miserable?

You need your medication for you. I understand you want this baby too. But you cannot hide it, it is impossible.

((hugs)) for you. Take care of yourself.

they would never just take your children away because you are bipolar in the uk. There must be more to it.

So i'm assuming you're not going to get any prenatal care since you're hiding your pregnancy? If so, you are a very selfish woman.

Doubly so if the government saw fit to take your other two children away from you. Something doesn't add up.

elkie, you are moving out of country then? My concern is your bipolar going untreated. That isn't healthy for either you or the baby! But you do what you think is best for you.

Not getting prenatal care is not unheard of. Women do it all the time! That doesn't make it right, but it doesn't make it wrong either. Pregnancy is a natural progression and as long as you take care of yourself, everything will be fine.

Good luck!

The fact that a woman isnt even willing to tell her g.P that she is pregnant tells me theres something odd going on,
you can hide your pregnancy all you want but you are going to have to have this baby at some point.
I lived in flats once and this woman lived opposite me, she had both her children taken into care and got pregnant again, she didnt tell a soul. On the night she went into labour she stayed at home as long as she could but eventually her b/f had to phone an ambulance, social services were called and took the baby away.

Why r u so scared to tell ur own doctor you pregnant? When I had my child at 18 social services visited me (because of the father, thank goodness he was no longer around) I always remember them telling me they never take children away unless they really have too. I hate things like this. I dont mean to be rude but it isnt bipolar, theres more to it. If you were a fit mother you would still have your children and you would be doing the best for your unborn child too.
