Hepatitis C Infection
Posted: 01-14-04 17:32pm

I had sex with someone who was infected and now am worried that I may be. I want to know what symptoms to look for and if irregular bleeding may be a symptom as well as the other things that I read.

I have been with my husband for over 4 years and we just found out he has hep c. We have been having unprotected sex for most of that time.

I tested negative.

My Boyfriend Tested Positive

And we had been having unprotected sex and I tested negative. The virus is blood bourne and is not found in semen or vaginal fluid. Only if for some reason there is blood in one of those fluids would you catch it. (i may be wrong but that is how I understand it to be.) unlike hiv which is present in all body fluids, except urine, (i think) good luck.

It would only be possible to catch it if there were blood in the semen and it entered the bloodstream from a tear in the vagina. Or if a women were menstruating and the man had an open sore somewhere on or around his penis, it could enter the bloodstream that way too I suppose.

Since we found out he had hepatitis c, we have been having protected sex.

Hep C

Semen does carry the virus, I was tested twice and both times came out negative, I was really scared, but, you have to be careful not to use, their tooth brush, their fingernail clippers, toenail clippers, their shavers anything like that, that may have any residue of blood in it at all. His was really bad. Any open wounds that they have, having sex while you are on your period....Its not something to mess with at all, you should be checked just to be on the save side

Definately!! I plan on being tested once a year, just to be safe. My husband and I are really careful about everything and have protected sex. No sharing clippers or nail files, etc. The other day he accidentally used my toothbrush and he called me and said he threw it away, then he went and bought me a new one.

Hep c is extremly difficult to contract through sex. There is a less than 2% chance.
Hep b on the other hand is an std and is easily spread through sexual activity.

my husband and I have been together for 15 years. He has both b and c. We have a child together and though I was tested before I tried to get pregnant as a precaution, my test were negative. Hope this relieves your worry.
