Hysterectomy

Question i'm new here. I have fibroids and it was suggested to me by my Dr. To have a hysterectomy. I'm only 34 and have so many questions I need answered. First one is whether or not to have a complete or partial hysterectomy? I've heard that the partial is the best for me but there are a few people telling me it only causes problems a year later. Then there's the question about sex, does having a hysterectomy always affect your sex drive? Then there's mood swings the fibroids are already affecting that. It seems like I have had pms for 2 or 3 months being I haven't had a period since october. Will this get better? Oh I already have tied my tubes so I can't have any more kids.

Some one please help me to understand all of this Crying

Unfortunately this is an area where the answer is we are all different.

I had a total hysterectomy (choice not medical need) & I don't think i'm any more or less moody than before, I did take hrt but stoppped after about 2 years then tried natural hrt (hormone replacement therapy) then decided to stop that too about a year ago & so far so good.

As for what is best, you'll hear opinions on both sides of the fence, likewise re the problems& also you must remember that all surgery carries risks including dr error etc. I chose total so that I wouldn't need to worry about any chance of further surgery. But that was me, it doesn't mean it's right for you!!

Same with sex drive, like sex itself, some people "like" it more than others & some people are "better" at it than others in the first place. Only you know which groups you & your husband fall into!! But some people do lose their sex drive, then again some lose it after a certain age, or due to other health reasons or certain medications, so you might lose it anyway regardless of this surgery or he might!!!!!!!!

Go to life extension foundation (find it via a search engine) they sell stuff but have tonnes of infomation free also go to a search engine like yahoo or google & type in queries like affects of partial hysterectomy, affects of total..., benefits of partial..../total...... Etc you will probably find medical & maybe some personal type information but of a more objective type than I sometimes see here (to others who read this please note I said sometimes).

Good luck
