I had a hida scan and it took about an
our...After that time, they said it looked
fine and didnt need to do anything else.
What about the cck thing? Do they have
to do that?

Cck Posted: 06-21-06 12:58pm
When I had the test done about a month ago
my understanding was the cck was a drug to
make your gallbladder contract as it would
from eating fat. If they didn't use the
drug how do they know if your's works or
not? What was the point in doing the
test?

I think hida scan for detecting gallstones
or biliary dyskinesia is really with cck
(a hormone called cholecystokinin)
stimulation...
I've read this somewhere, I hope this
would help:
this test is usually done to look for
evidence of acute cholecystitis. In this
case, the cystic duct is blocked by a
stone or inflammation. This prevents flow
of bile in or out of the gallbladder. The
test involves intravenous injection of a
very small amount of a radioactive
substance or radionuclide. The substance
is then excreted by the liver into the
bile. In normal circumstances the
gallbladder will fill with the
radionuclide. A gamma camera is used to
visualize the gallbladder and bile ducts.
If the gallbladder is visualized, the test
is considered to be normal. If the
gallbladder is not seen, a diagnosis of
acute cholecystitis may be made. A
variant of this test is also used in
certain patients who have symptoms
suggestive of gallbladder disease, but no
evidence of gallstones. In this test,
called a cck-hida scan, the hida scan is
done as described above. After the
gallbladder is visualized, the hormone
cholecystokinin (cck) is given to cause
the gallbladder to contract. By using a
computer attached to the gamma camera, the
amount of radionuclide ejected from the
gallbladder after stimulation with cck can
be calculated and reported. If the
"ejection fraction" is very small, one may
predict that removal of the gallbladder
will relieve the patient's symptoms.
Let me know your result...
I'll be having hida-cck on friday...

The test itself is no biggie, just boring
laying there for 2 hours plus depending on
how long it takes to get the radio active
goodies out of your gallbladder. The
after part was no fun for me, I had pains
worse than what the normal ones are and
they lasted for a few hours, that part I
didn't like.
Guess that's what happens when it doesn't
work.

since...
Anyways, havin' pain everyday for so many
days and nights is such a miserable
life!!!
Atleast, I could find the source of my
problem (or one of)...

The day pain I can handle for the most
part but these nights of 2 hours sleep are
really getting to me. I fully understand
your frustration with tests coming back
"normal" when you know darn right well you
feel anything but normal.
If zantac isn't doing the job any more you
should try some of the other meds to
reduce acid. They were changing my drugs
about every 6 months to see if any of them
would work better but the one that seems
to work best for me is plain old
gaviscon.
Good luck, I hope you feel better soon and
believe me when I say your not alone.
