Afraid of Potential Pregnancy Here!!!! Posted: 06-21-06 16:40pm
Hey everyone,
i'm the one who wrote the "hmm" topic on
this pregnancy forum here. Refer to that,
if you would like more info.
My period is still late, but when I took
an hpt a few days ago, it came out
negative. For the previous couple of
days, I kept feeling a dull pain down in
my lower abdomen above my private, and it
was really unusual. My bf and I thought
if it weren't the uterus, then maybe it
was the intestines or a urinary track
infection. But it "swayed" from side to
side in its small area, slowly
intensifying until I recognized the
all-too-familiar af cramps! But then,
nothing happened. Not even over night.
Went to work and the period cramps cycled,
but no period arrived which is all very
unusual for me, who gets the sudden period
cramps that quickly develop into very
uncomfortable obnoxious right before my
period starts and then dies down. Anyway,
these unusual crampings have since
disappeared for the past few hours, and
i'm not sure what to make of it.
My nipples are getting darker and breasts
a little puffier and sensitive, like a
period, but due to my circumstances (see
the topic "hmm..." on this pregnancy
forum) it's very possible for me to be
pregnant. So, i'm taking a different,
more expensive brand of hpt and going to
give that a try tomorrow morning. I used
first response, which I checked online and
it can only test about 100 miu hgc,
whereas I just got ept which supposedly
can test about 40-45 miu of the hormone.
Are these symptoms normal for "abnormally
late periods"? Or do these sound like
pregnancy symptoms to you? Also, is it
possible to get unusual pms symptoms while
skipping the bleeding of a period? My bf
and I are naturally, a bit concerned ....
Any information and advice is greatly
appreciated. Thanks a lot!!!!!!!

Also, instead of getting the chills like I
would during the regular period cramps, I
would get really hot and breaking into a
sweat. Is this a normal preg symptom or
just a wacky period symptom?
And, I can't go to a doctors right now.
For one thing, I can't even afford health
insurance. I thought this site was a
place to look for advice and comaraderie
... Not to judge and tear ppl down!
Any advice is appreciated. Thank-you to
anyone who cares!

Hikingchic, if you go to a family planning
clinic (planned parenthood or the like)
you can get pregnancy tests for free. How
late is your period? If you use first
morning urine, the test will more than
likely pick up the hcg in your system if
you are late ~ even with a cheap brand
like walmart's kind or something. Home
testing can get expensive and a simple
urine test at a doctor's office is not
that expensive.
Good luck!

Thanks ingi, I wasn't even aware of
planned parenthood places doing that. I
thought they just passed out condoms and
helped girls find places to get abortions
or their babies adopted. :-o i'll talk to
my bf about that, for sure. Also, because
I currently don't have health insur, I
have learned that an office visit to a
doctor's usually costs about $80, and they
tack on charges from there. Sorry for
that last message I wrote with the word
"pick." I meant to write "perfect." also,
i'm wondering, if it isn't a pregnancy,
maybe it's a problem with my uterus of
some sort! :-/ like, being clogged and
not able to pass the blood or
something....

How late are you? Your uterus does not
get 'clogged'. The reasons for not having
a period are usually hormonal. I've never
heard of a clogged uterus that was unable
to bleed.
Planned parenthood is for family planning,
which includes pregnancy testing and
pregnancy prevention. If you are in
college, this will be free to you. There
are also other places that give pregnancy
tests for free, like local health
departments sometimes do as well.
I wouldn't talk to my boyfriend about
anything. I'd hop in my car and take care
of myself. Especially if it was my
body.
If you aren't trying to become pregnant,
now would be a good idea to look into your
birth control options. There are quite a
few reliable methods you could use.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, ingi. But, my bf
and I are also the best of friends and we
both support each other rather than hurt
each other -- yes, we actually do care
about each other. It is possible to have
such relationships in this self-driven
world! :o) and our bodies are like one.
I asked for advice on the pregnancy
situation, not my personal relationship.
Wasn't that obvious? And isn't this board
about pregnancy, not relationships? Thank
you for what you did offer me, but please
check yourself before you start rattling
off your careless, selfish opinions
needlessly. Thanks.

Well, guess what? Your body is the one
carrying the 'baby' ~ not his.
Regardless of how close you are, you are
the mother. And the sooner you found out
you were (are) pregnant, the sooner you
could start taking care of yourself. I've
heard way too many times on this message
board about people 'asking' their
boyfriends permission, or waiting for him
to 'come around' before they started
taking care of themselves.
I wasn't being judgmental and I never said
anything about you. I said what
i would do. You are obviously free
to do whatever you choose.

that was really rude who in the hell
do you think you are coming onto a health
forum and cutting people down like that?
Like havnt you realized by now that this
is a health forum and people ask questions
like that. Like big deal just answer
thier quesntion and get on with your day.
And obiously you can see for yourself that
people do care because they are responding
to the post duh

First off sometimes even expensive
pregnancy test don't read accurately for
everyone so you might need to do a blood
test so if you don't get a positive pee
test and still no period I would look into
that.
Second isn't sadiedale the one that died
the other day?

Thank you to all who care and respond with
this helpful infromation, which i'm
looking into. I'm sorry ingi for snapping
back, its hard to tell what others are
thinking, and I completely understand what
you are saying. Thankfully my bf and I
communicate twice a day seeing each other
every day, so we can discuss option and
opinions and the stuff that i'm learning
from all of you. But I understand that if
he isn't around due to work or whatever, I
need to get myself to go myself. Totally
understand. Sorry about that. If only we
could all see each other face to face.
Unfortunately, ppl like sadiedales seem to
take advantage of a serious place like
this which is really too bad.. I mean, I
can see that some of you form sort of
"online friendships" which is really great
in here. Thanks so much to all of you
minus the troublemakers!

no problem. It is hard to tell when you
are only reading what people write.
Especially when there are others who are
complete turds (sadiesdale). Good luck.

Hey... All of these symptoms appear to
have now turned into a very late, very
light, but very painful period! Totally
unusual ... Hopefully it's just hormones
like what ingi said. ~confused...

i bet your period gets a lot heavier
pretty quick. Whenver i'm 'late' my
period is horrendously awful! Get some
ibuprofen and a heating pad and take some
couch time.
~feel better~

My boyfriend and I had sex for the first
time on the 13th of this month. My last
period started on the first of this month.
We used protection and we used it the
right way. Except i'm not on the pill,
because I can't be on the pill since i'm
taking medication that cannot be mixed
with birth control pills...
I found out my mucus was stringy and felt
like it had a few lumps or whatever in
it...And it was the color of egg white.
I noticed that since our first time, i've
been having mood swings, feelings of
bloating and constant urination...
Should I be worried?
I know mood swings & bloating goes
along with my pms, but since that special
moment, I can't seem to control any moods
that come into play.
I hope i'm not pregnant.

there is no mucous to determine pregnancy.
The only way to actually diagnose
pregnancy is with a pregnancy test.
If you used a condom the correct way, then
you should be fine. Pregnancy symptoms
would more than likely not show up that
quickly. If you are late for your period,
take a pregnancy test.
What medication do you take that can't be
mixed with birth control pills? There are
other reliable methods, that can be used
with condoms.
