Second Trimester Weight Gain Posted: 06-22-06 13:49pm
Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone
knows the actual amount of weight gain
you're supposed to have during the second
trimester? I am 17 weeks today and I went
to the doctor's and I had gained 3 pounds
since my last appt 4 weeks ago. I
thought I had gained too much but he
didn't say anything about it. So now i'm
not sure on an average weight gain that I
should be having from now on. Anyone
know?

I am nervous about weight gain b/c
diabetes runs in my family and I don't
want to be gaining too much weight... My
mom had gestational diabetes with me, and
i've heard terror stories about it so now
i'm trying my hardest to gain only the
minimum weight... Is that bad? Should I
be allowing myself to gain more? I mean,
I am eating healthy (sometimes I splurge
for the occassional mexican dinner or a
sweet treat). When will they know if I
am getting ges. Diabetes? I am having my
glucose screening in 3 weeks, is that how
they tell?

Hun, you need to eat healthy and thats
it...Have lots of healthy things and eat
small portions but often. You can't over
do it and you cant under do it just
because you think 1 lbs a week isnt
healthy...That is what is required...About
the diabetes i'm not sure if that plays a
role in the amount you should be
gaining....Ask your Dr.

Obesity is a risk factor for
diabetes/gestational diabetes. I know
this because it runs in my family and it
was something that my doctor watched for.
You will want to speak with your doctor
about weight gain if this is a concern of
yours. And the glucose test is for
diabetes. You may want someone to go
with you to this because you can leave
feeling tired/shaky even if you haven't
developed gd.
P.S. That syrup is nasty!!!

Thanks for the replies. :) i'm not obese,
but type one diabetes runs in my family.
The nurse said that the glucose screening
test in routine and they run it for
everyone. She said that since I am of
average weight, then I should only be
concerned abnout the ges. Diabetes if it
runs in my family, or if I gain too much
weight. So my doctor hasn't mentioned
anything about the weight gain i've had,
so i'm assuming it's in the good.
Thanks for the info on the syrup :) i'll
be prepared now :)
