A couple of months ago, I had a severe
lower back pain and I could not walk for
several days. I didn't go to see medical
doctors because I had similar back pain 10
years ago and they just gave me pain
reliever.
As time went by, the pain was diminishing
but it's still there in my spine. So I
decided to try chiropractic this time.
The chiropractic approach sounds
reasonable to me and the treatments
(several times) made me feel comfortable.
But! They showed me the payment plan
yesterday. They said I need totally 80
treatments in a year and it costs $4,500.
They tried to persuade me this money at
once (although it will be about $3300
after subtraction of insurance coverage
and some discount). I thought
chiropractic is less expensive than
medical treatments. I understand the
each cost depends upon the individual but
I still feel it's too expensive. I like
the doctor but the way of their pushing me
to pay made me very uncomfortable.
Do you think I should look for other
doctors?

First off I am glad to hear that your
condition is improving via the use of
chiropractic care. Though it is
adviseable that you comply to your doctors
treatment plan, there are other options.
Very few chiropractors that I know of
require the pre-pay method for getting
care. I know many, many doctors and this
is actually not that common. It is a way
for you to get more of a discount on
services if you were to go through an
entire years worth of care. However, I
just wanted to clarify to you that this is
not the "norm" for every chiropractor.
Your doctor will more than likely work w/
you on costs and should be more than happy
to accomodate your financial situation.
If not, there are many, many chiropractors
out there that will be able to provide
wonderful, affordable healthcare for you.

Health Care Costs Posted: 10-26-04 22:32pm
In my opinion, the medical system has
become more focused on money than on
providing care. If I had it my way health
care would be free. After all it is
something that we are born with, perfect
health. It just seems we spend our lives
distroying it.
If I could give you advise, it would be to
step back and look at all the positive and
negative aspects in your life. Because
all aches and pains we feel are reality to
a lot more than just the physical systems.
Stress is one easily identifiable thing
that contributes to pain. So by changing
our life styles and the food we eat things
can slowly be changed. Remember, by the
time an ache or pain is actually felt it
has had years to develop. So take some
time out, relax, streatch, breath in some
freash air, and have a massage. The
simple things in life are often those
which make us feel good.
