Does Anyone Know Much About............... Posted: 01-16-04 05:04am
My cousin is trying for their first child
and she was wondering if anyone knew
anything about pid (pelvic inflammatory
disease) she said she had it when she was
younger and the doc told her that her
chances of conceiving were slim if any,
and that if she did conceive the chances
of it bing ectopic were increased also.
I was wondering if anyone knew anything
about this and whether it was true or not.
I was also wondering if there was any
tests that the doc could perform that
might put her mind at rest so she would
know one way or another.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated
from someone who cant wait to have a jelly
bean all of their own

Pid Posted: 02-08-04 16:02pm
Pid is an inflammation and infection in
the fallopian tubes. It can cause
scarring and blockages that can lead to an
ectopic pregnancy which then causes
irrepairable damage to the tube. I had
pid once at 18 and then again at 20.
When I was 30 I had my period for 8 weeks
before they figured out it was an ectopic
pregnancy that had ruptured my right
fallopian tube. The damage could not be
fixed and I nearly died from internal
bleeding.
Down the road this means that you only
can get pregnant from one side, that would
be approximately every other month. The
bad news is, they cannot tell which month.
You really need a sonogram to check that
both of your ovaries are producing eggs
since you don't know which side will
release. You can increase your odds with
clomid and latter ganatatropins(sp?)
injections. The older you get, the worse
your odds as your ovaries produce fewer
and poorer quality eggs as you age.
