Ethan is 6 weeks and 3 days old now. How
much should he be eating? I really think
he eats too much. He wants to eat every 2
or 3 hours and he eats 5 ounces most of
the time. Sometimes he'll only eat 3. I
don't want to overfeed him..Especially now
that I started him on enfamil ar. It has
added rice starch, it's for babies that
spit up a lot.

My son was born may 11 and is also on ar
lipil. He eats every 2-4 hours and
usually between 2-5 ounces. I think your
son is pretty normal... Btw, does the
rice starch constipate him?

i just started to feed him the ar last
night, but he seems to be doing okay with
it so far. He spits up a tiny bit
sometimes, but it's about 10 times less
than before. Hey tayzia, things are going
pretty good. Pretty tired, but that's
about it. Ethan is getting pretty big.

Well my son got constipated a week after
starting ar lipil. The doc said most
babies do. Now I have to give him karo
syrup every day, which sucks bc its pure
sugar and that isnt good for a baby. Hes
got reflux though, so I dont have a
choice. Anyway, just watch the bowel
movements, if they start getting firmer
and turn into little balls he is
constipated. (sorry if im being too
gross)

It's all normal sam!
He'll grow out of that and will start to
eat on a good schedule when he's around
2-3 months I think. That's what brayden
did anyways!

I never went by the amounts given by the
doctors...I just let jace eat when he
wants--although now that he eats people
food I do make sure he eats healthy....So
he's not dead yet so just let the lil man
pig out and eat when he wants...It makes
them much happier and they arent whinny
because they are comfortable because their
belly is full...All babies are different
anyways so I dont see why they give every
baby the same guidelines ...Never
understood that ..Hrmm

Im sorry one of my kids has acid reflux
which can cause the to spit alot as
children and the actually prescribe a
childrens does of zantac (aka antacid)
giving your kid that cr@p would actually
make his acid reflux worse....
The drs actually recommend to give 2oz
water for formula fed babies and babies
who spit up to much either .A eat too much
.B have someone moving them around too
much after a meal .C acid reflux. I have
acid reflux and so I know the game karo
syrup is bad and should not be given there
is other methods to try first before!!
Sam your son is eating on target some kids
eats more and some eat less!

zantac and other medications dont reduce
the acid reflux according to the doctor,
what they do is help ease the pain. In
the meantime, the baby is still getting
the reflux and getting his esophogus
eroded over time which can lead to serious
complications and cancer. Giving my son
rice starch formula has helped the stuff
actually stay down because its thick, so
its helping tremendously (side effects:
constipation). Giving water to a newborn
can be extremely dangerous because it
throws of the electrolyte balance and
alters the potassium levels too much. It
should be used rarlely, only if the infant
is outdoors in extreme heat. As for the
rest of your post...You tend to babble and
run all your sentences together, you sound
incoherent to me. Oh and as for the karo,
what other method is there that you think
is better? Please enlighten me.

Zantac
is what im taking now over prescriptions
basically waht it does is first reduces
stomach acid. Sugar, spices, caffeine are
extremely bad and cause more acid to be
created I used to take losec (prilosec to
you state folk) and anyways that took away
95% of my acid.
I have gastroesphogal reflux dieseas which
is acid reflus in its worse form and I
suffer but I know what it can do if left
untreated in my sitiuation can turn my
cells abnormal (barrets esophagus) can
become cancerous (read the can become)
zantac is prescribed to a child/adult for
1-2 months for acid reflux before anything
stronger is given christ ill give you my
drs # and a few webpages to read!!
(sorry sam)

Btw a baby who spits up all the time isnt
guranteed to have acid reflux thats why
its a game of trial and error they have to
prescribe antacids if they work then your
child has been diagnosed, unless you want
your kid to have to go through an
endoscopy which is gross...
Other methods for constipation that
actually work.......
Stimulating anal muscles (take a
thermometer, q-tip dip it in vaseline and
stick it in abit)
~water
~if they are eating solid turn to sweet
taters/apples bananas naturally constipate
ppl
baby massage
more baths
movement stimulates baby bowels so put
baby in exercauser, swing whatever to get
baby moving

His doctor says she doesnt want to put him
on any medication unless its absolutely
necessary, bc why take medicine if you can
find ways around it ( which I agree with).
I was told that the medicines that are
used for infant g.E.R.D. Are primarily
only pain relievers. The whole situation
is just not fun.

Ive already tried the q tip and
thermometer as well as the baths and
massages. They dont help him at all.
Also he has all of the textbook symptoms
of g.E.R.D. Plus his grandpa has it so I
know thats what it is.

Umm... See he was born with gerd, many
infants are because their digestive system
is immature. The medication doesnt "take
care of it" , it makes it more tolerable.
Most infants simply grow out of it as
their digestive tract matures. Nestle
goodstart doesnt do anything for spit up
or reflux, its just as thin as regular
formula. Reflux babies need thickened
formulas.

Some babies have bad reflux untill they're
one and then it disappears, others need
meds. My best friends son just went for
a barrium test, where he had to drink it
then they do a picture u/s to see where it
goes and for him instead of going down, it
goes down a bit then comes right back up.
They are putting him on meds. My niece
on the other hand grew out of it by the
time she was 14 months.
As for the amount of formula, every baby
is different. At 6 weeks trey was off
the boob and would drink 5-7oz every hour
or 2. He was pretty big (almost 15lbs by
that age) but now he's perfect. Well
he's still at the 99% for both height and
weight (30 lbs!! He actually lost 3 lbs
in 2 months) but he's not fat anymore
with all the running aorund he does. Lol
i hope they can resolve all of this with
you r son.
