Hello - I am a runner, an aerobics
instructor, and a cycler. I have had
irregular periods (actually absent) for
over a year. I have heard it can be due
to exercise. Does anyone know about this
or had this experience?

I was a dancer (no, not .T.H.A.T kind of
dancer) for over 18 years, and my periods
were never regular unless I was on bc.
And, yes, it was due to the exercise I
got. However, the most I ever skipped was
one month at a time, and that didn't even
happen but once a year or so.
I'm not an expert by any stretch of the
imagination, but I would think that not
having a period for over a year isn't
normal. If you're ttc and not having your
period (or even if you're not ttc), I
would suggest seeing a doctor about it.
Have you not spoken to an obgyn about it
before? Like, during a regular exam or
something?

Oh yes - I have talked to a Dr. About it.
Believe it or not - they were not too
concerned. They told me to gain some
weight ( I did - about 15 lbs) but still
no period! I knew the exercise was
mostly to blame. It is hard to give it
up. I know this sounds silly and so easy
to do ( give up exercise) but it's my life
and my job.

I can understand that. Have you seen a
doc since ttc? If you're not ovulating, I
can't imagine you'd have much luck
conceiving on your own. You might need
some medical assistance, although I don't
really know what they do for that.

I don't see why you would need to give up
exercise completely. Maybe you need to
just cut back a bit and see if that helps.
