Hypoglycemia Turning Into Diabetes Posted: 06-27-06 16:49pm
Hi,
i know where is sometimes a connection
between hypoglycemia and diabetes. I'm
really concerned because both of my
grandmothers had the condition. I have
heard that after a while your pancreas
gets exhausted and stops producing insulin
and you become diabetic. I've had
hypoglycemia for so many years, off and
on, so i'm worried this will happen
eventually.
Any input?

Hmmm, i've heard that this will only
happen if you follow a bad diet.

I understand how you feel, diana. I was
told early on because of my family
history, hypoglycemia can be a precursor
to diabetes.
I'm concerned, too, since i've relapsed in
august and my symptoms were so severe.
But like stan said, I believe you would
have to consistently eat poorly for
hypoglycemia to turn into diabetes.
Case-in-point: my brother never ate right,
exhibited hypoglycemic tendencies and he's
a diabetic at 38.
I view my concerns as just a way to keep
myself in "check". If I don't "cheat",
it won't happen. :)

Can anyone post any links to articles that
talk about this? My mom is
hypoglycemic..Or rather was when she was
younger. She doesn't get the "attacks"
anymore like she used to. And my father
died from diabetes.
