I know babies can be between 6- and I guess 11 or12 pounds but how are they so different. Its like one baby is half the size of the other. Is it cuz someone eats better so they have a smaller baby? Or...U kno? And aparently boys are generally bigger than girls. As long as my guy donesn't have a huge head I think i'll be okay :) just was kinda wondering about that. Thanks!!!!!!!

it depends on genetics. If a woman doesnt ake care of herself and eats properly in pregnancy then I am guessing the baby wont be big due to malnurishment. Mostly its due to genes.

Genetics & gestational diabetes are two things that can cause large babies. How big was your husband and how big were you when you were born?

What you eat has less to do with the size of the baby than the size of you! You can eat ice cream every day all day long and have an average sized baby, when you gained 200lbs! You cannot determine the size of your baby by what you eat or don't eat. You can only determine the health of your baby by what you eat or don't eat.

My son was 6lbs 15oz and 20 1/2 inches long.
My daughter was 6lbs 12oz and 18 1/2 inches long.

I gained 65 lbs when I was pregnant with my son!! Oops. And I gained 30 lbs with my daughter.

what I meant was if a woman doesn't eat at all, I am pretty sure the baby wont be fine and I know it doesnt matter if a woman gains 100lbs it doesnt mean the baby will be fat.

I knew a young woman who had 3 kids in under 3 years. All singletons.

She was overweight to begin with, but not terribly. By her last pregnancy, she was eating an entire box of pudding pops in one sitting and little else that wasn't equally as junky.

The stress pregnancy and lack of nutrition put on her body was awful! She lost a bunch of teeth and half her hair fell out.

People have siad that I am going to have a small baby because I am small. I didnt' really believe them. But the lady that did my last ultrasound stated the my baby would be around 6-7 lbs by the time she comes. I know this is just a guess.

I have also been told that you could add your birth weight to your husband's birth weight and then divide them and then the baby would weigh approx that much. However I was born a month early at 6.5 lbs and my husband was born at 44 weeks and he was 10.5 lbs. So I dont' think that it would work like that. My husband had 4 extra weeks to grow and I didnt' get to 40 weeks gestational age. Of course that just might be an old wives tails. Who knows.

jeez! I feel so sorry for his mom. He was probably wearing 6-9month sized clothes! I can't believe they let her go that long. It is really dangerous for the baby when the placenta starts to deteriorate.

With my brother they got his dates wrong and when he was born at 39 weeks his placenta was already showing signs of deteriation.

I was 2 wks late with eldest and she weighed 8lb15
with harry-john I was 2 weeks early and he was 9lb7 and with youngest lily she was born at 39 weeks weighing 8lb 3

so the way mine go if I have a boy I reckon e will be a good weight

I weighed 9 lbs. At birth and my husband weighed 5 lb. 5 oz. But he was a twin. His brother weighed a few oz. More. Their mom carried until 36 weeks I think. I wonder how big he would have been if he wouldn't have been a twin? Either way, my doctor is saying i'll have a 9 lb. Baby. I'm not a big person either. It's not fair. My sister-in-law is over 300 lbs. And just had an 8 lbs. Baby. I hear even one lb. Makes a difference when you have to push it out. Lol

doctors are not always accurate in 'guessing' the weight of a baby! Nor is ultrasound a good way to determine the weight.

Either way, pushing is pushing whether your baby weighs 6 lbs or 10 lbs. They all take the same amount of work.

My sister inlaw had 3 babies, all of them in the 12 lb range. Her youngest baby was just over 12 lbs and when he came out, he slipped through the midwife's hands and bounced on the bed!!

the woman who did my ultrasoun and my doc said my baby wouldnt be more then 7 pounds... He ended up being 8 pounds 9 oz. And I wasnt big before I got pregnant. Also his sister from another woman was only 7 pounds 3 oz. And her mom is bigger then me. I was 7 pounds 1 oz when I was born and his dad was 9 pounds even when he was born.. So im leaning to genetics not having to much to do with it.

if genetics don't have anything to do with people's sizes, why in the world are their family resemblences and stuff? ;)))

I meant the wheight a baby is at birth... How their looks change and they look when they are older is different... 2 really big people can have skinny kids and not have any skinny people in their fa mily.

it is determined by genetics. What your birth weight was. What the father's birth weight was. Not what they turn into. You said your sister inlaw was 300 lbs, but not when she was born.

You take birth weights of both parents - and even their parents if can find that out. And that is an 'average' of your baby. Not a definite. Nothing is definite.

That is genetics.
