Crohn's And Hysterectomy... Posted: 07-15-06 20:08pm
I have had crohn's for 12 years and at the
present time I am in remission. I seem to
have flares about once every year or two
brought under control with meds. I did
have one hospitalization for 6 1/2 for an
obstruction/ruptured appendix, consisting
of intervinous food and meds, tests,
abscess drains, a resection (that's when
they found I had a ruptured appendix as
well as the obstruction) and a week later
they had to go back in and repair the leak
from the first surgery.
Anyhow to my point of this message...
Anyone with crohn's have a hysterectomy?
I am having other problems that suggest I
should have one. One part of me thinks
yes take it out I don't need anymore
adomin problems and the confusion of
telling the difference of if it is my
crohn's or my uterous. The other part of
me thinks I don't want them going in there
and messing with my guts and stirring up
my crohn's. I am going in to talk with
they gyn this week but I would really like
to hear from fellow crohnies as people
with crohns understand better and know
from first hand experience.

Honestly, I wouldn't let them take any
more out of you unless it's proven to be
severely affecting the chron's... I have a
hiatal hernia that they won't fix because
although it affects the chron's, messing
with my insides could subsequently worsen
it... Whatever your gyn says, get a
second opinion from the gastro. Good luck
