Q: Exercise Ball

I had my 37 week checkup, and my baby still hasn't dropped. My nurse mentioned that this might be because i've spent so much time off my feet. She suggested that I pick up one of those inflatable exercise balls to sit/rock on. Has anyone had any experience with them at all? And are they similar to the birthing balls people sometimes use while they're in labor?

Another question: does the baby's head dropping have anything to do with effacement/dilation? Moving it along or whatnot?

Thanks in advance, girls.

Yea, I used to sit on my excercise ball when I was pregnant. Of course, I had her at 37 weeks, but thank god she had dropped at 32.((actually her dropping really sucked!!)) I was on my feet a lot though. I would def. Try rocking on it and walking around. It wouldn't hurt.

The day I went into labor, before I left for the hospital, I rocked on my ball. It was awesome...I wish I would've brought it.

When the babies head finally drops, it puts pressure on the cervix which in turn begins to thin and dialate. If the babies head isn't on or near it, you could progress slower than if it's head were pressed and ready to go.

Are they sure that the baby isn't breech? If it is breech there is somthing they could do externally to rotate the baby. But yout body can't be in labor when they try to rotate the baby.

You'll be fine either way girl!! You're getting close!! It starts getting crazy now that you know your a couple weeks away from holding what's been kicking you all this time!!!!!

Walking and gravity are natural forms of getting things moving down there. While you sit at your computer, the kitchen table, watching tv, etc, you can use your excercise ball. Move your hips in a circular motion and that will really help get that baby down.

And, as the nurses in the hospital say when you show up in labor, walk, walk, walk, walk!

Alyvia's definitely head-down, she just isn't engaged. I'm getting pretty miserable, so I think we're going to pick up one of those balls tomorrow at .Target. I'm hoping to make some kind of progress before my next appointment (next tuesday). I love being pregnant, but i'm pretty much at my wits end emotionally and physically.
