Hida Scan Shows 6% Ejection Rate...
Posted: 07-24-06 11:41am

Hi.

I have had ruq pain consistently for the last 8 weeks accompanied with nausea after eating or drinking ( and it doesnt matter what I eat or drink). I finally went to the Dr. And had an ultrasound that came back normal. He ordered a hida which showed that my gallbladder is ejecting at a 6% rate (normal being between 35-40%). He sent me to a specialist/surgeon who now is telling me that it might not be my gall bladder and wants me to have an egd (looking in my stomach for ulcers). Will someone tell me what the point of a hida is if not to shoe that my gallbaldder is not working? Any advice would be useful.
Thanks.

I have the same problem, urq pain for the past 6 months. After many tests, went for an abdominal ultrasound which came back normal, no stones. A couple of days later I went for a hida scan which came back with a 26% ejection fraction. I went to see the surgeon who said my gallbladder was not functioning right and because I had all of the symptoms, my gallbladder needs to come out. He said most of the time gallbladders with low ejection fractions eventually will develop stones. I am having my gallbladder removed on wednesday.

Did the hida scan replicate the pain you have been experiencing? When they injected the cck with me, I immediately got nauseaus, had an intense hot flash followed by cramps in my stomach.

It sounds like your surgeon is just making sure it is not something else before he does surgery. Good luck to you and feel better.
