Any Other Cause For Heavy Discharge On Ortho-lo? Posted: 07-24-06 15:41pm
besides pregnancy? Could
it be related to the fact that week two
accidentally got skipped last month, and
now my body is out of whack? I've had
heavy discharge since about a week after
my period stopped. It's worse some days,
better on others, and it seems to
fluctuate throughout the day. It's the
normal color, (for me) which is mostly
white with a slight yellow tint if it's
especially thick.
Doing calculations, the only way I could
be pregant is if:
i had already ovulated because of the
shortening of the birth control, and
because I only took two days of week two
and then ended up taking all of week
three.
Then, after my boyfriend and I had sex,
the sperm managed to make it into my
fallopian tube and fertilise the egg.
Next, the egg took long enough to finish
coming down the fallopian tube that my
period, which came a day after we had sex,
was already over.
And somehow, this egg implanted on my
totally barren, post-menstrual uterus. I
thought eggs could only implant if there
was sufficient build-up on the uterus to
do so.
Plus, I am on birth control, isn't
that supposed to make the uterus hard to
implant in? Implantation would have
taken place within 7-10 days of
fertilisation (if I remember health class
right) so by then, I was already back on
birth control pills.
I am really scared.

I just want everyone to know (so.. Just
you carifairy, lol) I called planned
parenthood's hotline for advice on this,
and she told me that as long as I got my
period, that mean's i'm fine and i'm not
pregnant. It just really, really helped
to hear a real person, on the phone, who
is a nurse, say that.
As for the future, I am obviously to much
if a ditz to properly take bcp's, even
though I took them fine for over a year.
One mishap has completely removed all
trust in myself. I am going to schedule
myself for my annual pap-smear (and hope I
don't get any suprises while i'm there,
like "oh, by the way you're pregnant!) and
while i'm there, i'm going to ask for an
iud. Mirena, I hope, although it does
take a week to become fully protective.
It is more effective than the copper coil
one, and since i've had no problems on
hormonal birth control, I should do fine
on it. I'll make sure the docs give it to
me, because i'll tell them my whole horror
story!!

Actually, the mirena is effective
immediately, but many docs do say to wait
for one week....
My doc told me I could have sex that very
same day =)
discharge on bcp, doncha love it? The
progestin hormone in bcp is known to cause
some thickening of the cervical mucous,
and some women do notice a 'wetter
environment' while on bcp's.
Mirena will likely also give you a wetter
environment too, but as long as there is
no infection, everything is a-ok.

I've been on ortho-lo (not the
just-progesterone pills, as you know) more
than a year now, and I don't think i've
ever noticed it this thick before. The
lady on the phone said it could be cause
by the fact that I screwed up the cycle,
but that since I had my period, it meant I
wasn't pregnant. I'm still worried
though. Too scared to go get a test. And
I have to schedule a pap smear, and I
don't want to find out then, either!
