No cause it comes from a single egg splitting and that egg will have the same dna (i.E boy or girl) even when its split.

Well just because the egg has the same dna, doesn't mean the sperm does right? I don't know. I could have swore that identical twins could be boy and girl.

Identical twins split from one sperm and one egg. They are more rare than fraternal twins. Identical twins do not run in families.

Fraternal twins are 2 sperm meet 2 eggs. When a woman produces 2 eggs, it is said she hyperovulates. Hyperovulation can be inherited - but the man in the relationship still has nothing to do with twins (other than his sperm being in the right place at the right time).

Identical twins share the same dna. Fraternal twins are exactly like any brother/sister in the amount of dna they share.

Hey, just thought I would add that what you are talking about melissa does occur. When one egg splits into two and is then fertilized by two different sprem, the resulting twins are called polar body twins. In this case the twins can be different sexes, and share 75% of the same dna, as opposed to the 100% shared by identical twins.

Well, the .Olsen twins are fraternal and they're hard to tell apart... Just one of those weird things that happens sometimes, I guess.

I just have to say this again...

Twins are not identical if one has a penis and the other has a vagina!

Identical twins come from one egg fertilized by one sperm. And every sperm has either the x or the y chromosone. The fertilized egg then splits. One sperm can only carry one gender people! No identical boy and girl sets. Nope nope. How can one sperm create both genders?

As for people saying they have seen a boy and girl set of twins look the same, fraternal twins can look the same also. Just like siblings with age gaps can look strikingly simular.
