Down Syndrome? And Pre Natal Vits Posted: 07-27-06 16:39pm
Ok I realize when ur preg you worry more.
I cant stop thinking about the down
syndrome pamplets they gave me. Are
there symptoms before the 20th? What are
the chances ur baby will have it? I am 28
with a five and eight yr old. Healthy.
Also I couldnt take the prenatal vits. So
my Dr. Had me take flinstone vits. Is
this going to cause a defect? I was just
wondering because I am much more sick than
I was with my first two boys.

Why can't you take the prenatal vitamins?
Has your doc told you the baby would have
downs? They mightbe giving you those
phamplets so you are aware of it.They test
you to find out your chances. When you are
in your 30's you have a greater chance.

They gave me a lot of pamplets just that
one caught my attention. It says ages
25-30 increases to one in 900 chance and
after 35yrs old its increases more. Im
only 10wks so they dont know if the baby
has it or not yet. I was just wondering
if there are symptoms of it before the
test is done.

No.There is no way you can tell.I think
that test is only like 5-% accurate
anyhow(even though they say its 99%).I
have heard of people saying they got a
positive test back and their child came
out just fine,no downsyndrome.I would just
relax! : )

Your 'sickness' doesn't have anything to
do with it. Nor does your vitamin intake.
It is a chromosomal abnormality. There
is no way you could possibly know anything
were wrong until you have a
alpha-fetoprotein (afp), test. This tests
for markers of possible down's syndrome.
If that test is 'positive' for down's
markers, your doctor would probably want
to do an amniocentisis.
