I had a hida scan done and the ejection
fraction was 14%. I also had an
untrasound and that came back normal. The
only symptoms I am having is pressure near
my upper right side and once in a while a
dull ache near the middle top of my
stomach. Also once in a while I do get a
sharp pain that lasts a few seconds where
my gallbladder is located. The first
surgeon I spoke to told me not to take my
gallbladder out unless I am in pain. The
second surgeon told me to take it out
because it is only going to get worse.
Who should I listen to? Can the
gallbladder improve or does it get worse?
A response would be appreciated.

You can dissolve gallstones on your own.
Here's a site that tells you how. Edit
good luck.

I would hold off on the surgery. In fact,
my hida came back 6% and i'm still going
to take a shot at keeping it. I suppose
the worst thing that could happen is i'll
end up having it taken out in the er if it
gets so bad that i'm crying in the floor
one night.
I had a little gallbladder pain about 3
years ago, or at least I suspect it was
gallbladder related. I didn't have a hida
scan and the pain wasn't as bad as it is
now but whatever it was it went away after
a few weeks. That's not to say it can or
will but it inspires me personally to do
whatever I can to try and keep my
gallbladder if at all possible.
Then again, this is your pain/discomfort
and your gallbladder so it's your call to
make.

My Gallbladder Surgery Posted: 11-16-06 13:31pm
I had my gallbladder removed yesterday!
Here's my experience: I had my first
attack about one year ago. Nothing really
happened until about six months ago.
Since then, I have suffered miserably. I
threw up almost everything I ate. The
attacks were undescribable. I thought I
could change my diet and make this problem
go away on its own. So, I switched to a
low-fat diet and even became a vegetarian,
but no matter what I ate, I threw up at
least 2-3 times a week. The attacks sent
me to the er several times. My husband,
who had his gallbladder removed last year,
has been great ever since! Now, I know
i've only been out of surgery for a little
while, but I already feel relieved. To
those considering surgery, let me tell
you, the pain of surgery is nothing
compared to a gallbladder attack. I would
urge you to have your gallbladder removed
as quickly as possible. It's a very
simple surgery (i had mine done
laproscopically). It only took an hour
and I was able to come home the same day.
I will reply again later with an update on
my condition. When considering if I
should have surgery or not, I would read a
lot of posts on forums like this and often
get discouraged because some people seemed
to have bad experiences, but keep in mind
that those people are more likely to write
their experience than someone who had no
trouble at all. I just wanted to let
everyone know that it is possible to feel
better. Just have the surgery!

I, too, had gallbladder surgery. I only
had it done because I was having frequent
gallbladder attacks. The surgery itself
was quite easy, and I was released the
same day, as well. However, there are
risks involved. I came home and after
several days had even worse pain. I went
to the er and they took a catscan and
ultrasound and found that there was a
stone stuck in my bile duct. They had to
perform another surgery (ercp) to have it
removed.
If you aren't suffering greatly from
gallbladder attacks, I would personally
wait.
