Mucus And Blood...cant Sleep.

Sort of up now.

I'm 24, and for the past three, almost four years, i've been experiencing mucus when I have a bowel movement, pretty much every time. I'm not sure why I ignored it...I guess I convinced myself somehow that it was fine.

Occasionally i've had very sharp pain in my abdomen, but rarely...It's only been in the past two years, and in that time i've had the pain maybe four times, and when I was able to use the bathroom it seemed to help. I tried adding more fiber to my diet, and in any case, though i'm still probably not taking enough I haven't had that pain in about a year.

Tonight I used the bathroom and noticed a little mucus with blood in it, just regular blood, I wouldn't describe it as being overly bright or dark. I don't have the itching that is associated with a hemmorhoid, but i'm wondering if I could have one all the same due to constipation? (i tend to have a real bowel movement only maybe twice a week, and probably more like once.)

i think I may have experienced a little blood like this about 2 years ago, but it didn't continue so I stopped worrying about it somehow. I guess it's easy enough to be so embarrassed you don't want to see a doctor.

I'm just concerned. I have a physical coming up in august (and am all too eager to mention the problem to the doc at this point, as I know now that being embarrassed isn't worth it), but it's late august, and I don't know what to do with myself between now and then. I'm pretty scared.

Have a Colonoscopy

Have you had a colonoscopy? One of those could determine if you have any severe blockage or even a polyp. They can even do a less-invasive look into your lower intestines. Talk to your doctor. Her or she may recommend that you see a gastroenterologist.
