New to Hives, Please Help Posted: 07-30-06 02:28am
I just moved to virginia and started a new
job as a cook. Ever since I started the
job I have had horribly itchy hives all
over my legs, feet, and shoulders. This
has been going on for about a week, it is
only getting worse, the pain is getting a
little more bearable, but I get more hives
everyday and they are not going away. I
was wearing shorts and tank tops and flip
flops here until I started this job, now I
have to wear long pants, shoes, and long
shirts, hence the hives in such places. I
am on a medication that reduces my bodies
abilty to control its temperature, my
guess that this is my reaction to my body
over -heating. It is very hot and very
humid here right now and it only gets
worse inside a kitchen. I have not been
able to get any relief at all. This has
never happened to me before, I can't even
go outside, I cannot run, I breakout if I
move around too much. This is ridiculous.

Sounds abit like cholinergic urticaria,
unfortunatly there is no magical cure and
different things work for different
people. This may also be an allrgy
connected with food or latex (especially
if your working in a kitchen). You could
try an over the counter antihistimine such
as xyzal (perscription only in some parts
of the world) you can actually take over
the reccomended dose on these
antihistimines (dont go mad with them!
But take maybe 2 instead of 1).
Also try taking vitamin b suppliment,
suprisingly this seems to really help with
alot of people I have spoken to.
Other than that try to see a dermatoligist
to discuss further treatment.
Regards sean

My Cholinergic Urticaria Posted: 08-27-06 20:31pm
Yea, it sounds like you have cholinergic
urticaria. I have had this for about 7
months now and I have tried basically
everything. No anti-histamines work at
all for me...I have tried benadryl,
claritin as well as other treatments I
read about online. For a while, I was on
doxepin which slightly reduces the
problem, but it leaves you very tired all
day. I also tried acupuncture which
surprisingly worked for about 2 weeks and
then it came back even worse. I am
currently using a combination of two
medicines and it has worked extremely
well. I recomend this to everyone
suffering from cholinergic urticaria. I
take one tagamet (cimetidine) 400mg pill
every morning and one at night. I
combine night-time tagamet pill with one
.5mg cogentin (benztropine) pill.
Cogentin is used for parkinsons (i think)
but it is an anti-cholinergic. I
honestly have not had a single hive for 4
months. I don't guaruntee that it will
work for everyone, but it sure works for
me. Good luck!

We represent mitamins, an on-line company
supplying customized vitamin supplements
to the usa. We hope this information may
be of interest to you.
Hives (urticaria) is an allergic reaction
in the skin characterized by white or pink
welts or large bumps surrounded by
redness. These welts are known as wheal
and flare lesions and are caused primarily
by the release of histamine (an allergy
mediator) in the skin. About 50% of
people with chronic hives develop
angioedema—a deeper, more serious form
of hives involving the tissue below the
surface of the skin.
Dr balch's nutritional team has created a
formula designed to help the body maintain
optimal immune system health. Strong
components have also been added to help
reduce the levels of histamine in the
system. Vitamin c is required for the
formation of connective tissue and plays
an important role in maintaining proper
immune function. Several studies have
suggested that vitamin b12 may help reduce
the frequency and severity of hives.
Quercetin is a bioflavonoid which
possesses beneficial antioxidant
qualities. Green tea contains the
polyphenols epigallocatechin (egc) and
epicatechin gallate (ecg) that have been
reported to have an antihistamine effect
in in vitro tests.
Dr. Balch works with mitamins to provide
custom-made natural remedies for anyone
who wants an all-in-one daily supplement
that addresses all their health concerns,
as well as providing the vitamins and
minerals needed for optimum health and
wellness.
