Hiya

just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to get a scan earlier than this areas mad 20 week one  .

Although there are twins on my mums side it is not in a direct line, when I saw the doc she didnt ask me about twins in the family and when I phoned the clinic to make my 1st app she didnt ask either.

I would prefer to have an earlier scan for my own sanity!!!
My 1st app is on the 14th should I just tell her how I feel about not having a scan till later and hope they take pity and book an earlier one or just bend the truth about twins??

Have heard you can pay private ha yes if we all had money!!!

Thanx for any advice xx

Alot of women have to wait until 20 weeks for a scan. Many doctors find it unnecessary to have one before then. It varies from doctor to doctor. My cousin only had one scan her entire pregnancy, and i'm 22 weeks and i'm working on my third. It totally depends on the doctor. You could ask him for one sooner, but many times doctors are set in their ways. But it wouldn't hurt to ask :)

Firstly.. Congrats on your pregnancy... Secondly.. I am 31 weeks,3days, and I have had 3 total. One a t 14 weeks 3days, one at 19 weeks 4 days, and one at 30weeks 3days ... The first was to check dates, the second was for all the measuaring and the last one was just becuz the Dr. Wanted it done, and I was there,.. Haha... So it really depends on the Dr.

Umm I wouldn't nessarly "bend the truth" about the twins, but you can express your concerns or maybe "bend the truth" about when you think your last perios was....
Unless you have already gone, and they have to recorded, but if not, then you might beable to get away with that, also if you ever have a single problem, go to the er, and they would probably do one there... But only go if you are really having a problem... But also at this early in your pregnancy, an u/s isn't going to show much more than what looks like a bean or a cashew nut...Lol....

Either way good luck~

I don't think "bending the truth" to your doctor just to get your way is a good idea. You need to be 100% honest with your doctor so that you can be sure your baby is getting the best care.

I've already had 3 scans and know the sex of my baby. (i'm only 15w4d) but that's only because my husband is an er nurse and know the ultrasound ladies. My ob Dr. Gets really mad if ppl get scans early so i'm not telling her about it! My Dr. Is soooo anal! I know there is no way I could wait til 18-20 wks though.

Jenny the tech would have to record that you were given a scan. So your Dr. Would know. It would have to be in your medical recorders, so I don't see how you think she is not going to find out!
And also unless you had a 3d or 4d u/s I dought the tech could clearly tell you the sex of your baby, I had one done at 14 weeks and 3days and there was nothing for the tech to even look at on a reg. U/s to tell the sex that early!
Also it isn't clear whether or not u/s' s espically the 3d or 4d u/s can affect or harm an unborn baby, so having too many of them isn't a good idea!

actually, there is no evidence saying it can harm your baby. My Dr. Couldn't find out because it wasn't recorded officially. (they don't have to officially record them if they are doing it for someone they know and not for the hospital) I didn't even have my u/s in the same department as they do the ones for my Dr. Oh, and I had a regular sonongram btw... My best friend found out she was having a little girl at 15 weeks also and she had her daughter 2 weeks ago so they can find out the sex that early obviously. It mostly depends on the quality of the equipment, the person doing the u/s, and of course the baby needs to cooperate.

I would just wait until your appointment and make sure you point out that there may be a possibility of twins. The doctor will feel around on your abdomen and make sure your uterus is about the size it should be for your dates. If its bigger then you could be having twins and she'd probably have a scan done. I had my first appt at 9 weeks and she said I was measuring about 10 weeks which isn't very much off but they ordered a scan just to make sure. So just wait and see how it goes.
