Posted: 01-19-04 10:47am

If the first day of my last period was jan 10th is it possible to get pregnant if I had sex on jan 17th? Or is it too soon after my period? And when would be my most fertile time? Help

I think should be on the 14 days ....17th might be a bit early...Try again on the 22th or 23th...Good luck

I try to stick too a every other day sex regimen. The doctor says that in many circumstances the egg will not flush with a period and will drop right down after you stop your period becoming fertilized with intercourse. So my husband and I are trying to make love every other day. More if we are in the mood. You just have to think of ttc as sensual and sexy and not a chore because you will be happy and pleased while your trying for your baby. You being turned on also increases your chances of conceiving because you naturally produced more lubricant making it easier for the sperm to reach the egg. So I wouldn't try to predict when the perfect chance is...I would just have fun in bed and if you get pregant while having magnificiant love the more better it is for you. But on the other side it is good to always know and watch your body so do both and have fun doing it.
Good luck!!

The first question one would have to ask is how long are your cycles? The second would be when do you ovulate?
Not all women have 28 day cycles and/or ovulate on day 14. It's very important to determine when ovulation takes place as, not only will you know how to time intercourse, but you can determine if you have a luteal phase defect which can severly interfere with your ability to become pregnant.
You may have a 28 day cycle but ovulate on day 20 leaving an 8 day luteal phase which would make implantation impossible.
See what I mean?

Remember that the egg only lasts for 8 to 24 hours, fertilization occurs in the fallopian tube not the uterus and it takes 7 to 10 days after conception for implantation to take place, so all these are important factors to realize when trying to determine your fertility.

In addition, sperm can live in fertile quality cervical fluid for up to 7 days(max) so, assuming your cycles are bang-on normal, you could possibly end up pregnant having sex 7 days before ovulation but, honestly, it's not likely.

You should learn the fertility awareness method (see, taking charge of your fertility by toni weschler). This, while somewhat time consuming, should give you a clear idea of what your body is doing from month to month.

I hope this helps.
