recently [3-4 months ago] I noticed I had
a small, semi-hard bump near the very back
of my jawbone on my neck. I did my
research and read quite a bit about
swollen lymph nodes.
So far, i've found it could be the
following things:
- cancer [lymphoma]
- an infection
- possibly calcified lymph node?
I do not have any of the other
symptomsrelated to cancer. No night
sweats, itching, lack of apetite, etc.
No other lymph nodes are swollen as far as
the doctor or I could tell.
After an examination, I was put on heavy
antibiotics to fight the assumed
infection...The lymph legitimately seemed
to go down in size...But not disappear.
It's still here after the medication is
done...And i'm almost positive that it
fluctuates in size slightly...Almost
positive.
The only medication i'm on is zomig, which
I take semi-frequently, for my migraines.
Is it possible somehow the zomig could
affect the swelling?
What else could this possibly be?
I'm on my way in a week or so to have a
biopsy done on it...But until then, does
anyone have any suggestions or answers?
Thanks

With this sort of condition, you'd better
not predict anything until the biopsy is
finished. It could be a number of
things.

What other things could it be?
Anything I didn't mention that you could
possibly shed some light on?
Thanks

From experience, the best thing for you to
do is go to the doctor and let them test
it.
There are lots of things that can cause
swollen lymph nodes. Yes, cancer is a
possibility. There are also simple things
like mononucleosis, etc. That is why it
is best to have the doctor take a look and
have him/her make a treatment plan.
Just my $.02 worth,

ps- mine was caused by sle (lupus)!

I also have a lymphnode exactly where you
do. It gets large at times and sometimes
a bit uncomfortable of painful but ive
been to the doctor many times and its
absolutely nothing to worry about. If
they are swollen or a bit tender to the
touch this only means your body is
fighting off some kind of infection. In
fact sometimes mine swell for no reason.
Go to your doctor but don't worry about
it. Some people's are much more prominent
than others. I can grab the node under my
jaw and pull it up.

I have the same problem. A month ago I
found 4 enlarged lymph nodes on the right
side of my neck, right above the
collar-bone.
I went to doctor he did blood test, x-ray
and the biopsy. All results came
negative. Now he insists on removing one
of the lymph node for further tests. I
don't want to do it, but my doctor does
not want to do anything else. He did not
write any prescription.
Did anyone have lymph node removed? How
did it help to find the cause of the
enlarged nodes? How big is the scar after
the surgery?

My son has fought swollen nodes in the
same area for years. After all possible
tests had been ran, (all negative), the
doctor told us that it is just the bodies
way of fighting off any infection,
regardless of how small. Everytime he
gets a sniffle, or even a bug bite, his
nodes swell. It can be painful at
times, but eventually they do shrink back
down to normal. My son is covered head
to toe, as I write this, in poison oak,
and he looks like he has a case of the
"mumps from hell". It is difficult for
him to swallow at times, and painful to
the touch. You should go and have the
biopsy done, if for no other reason than
to ease your mind. Swollen nodes are
pretty common, we were told, but it always
better to be safe, than sorry.

Lymph Node Problem Posted: 09-04-03 00:53am
I had this problem a few years ago and was
diagnosed with cat scratch fever. Weird
huh? Do you have a cat? It took
several months for the lymph nodes to get
back to normal and I took no medication
for it. Beware the litter box.

I've had swollen lymph nodes and went to
the Dr. He said don't even worry about
it. I still have one about the same
place your thyroid is. I went to a
surgeon and internal med. Dr, and they
both said some people just always have
them. Still kinda worries me though...

Swollen Lymph Nodes Posted: 11-12-03 19:32pm
Hi... I've had swollen lymph-nodes for
about seven years.
Doctors just always told me
that it was from my sinusis
and or my wisdomteeth.
I've taken care of both problems
and my nodes are larger
and as painful as ever!
I'm now thinking of having
my thyroids checked.
I suffer each and every day
with a painful neck.
Sincere luck to you!

Swollen Glands! Posted: 07-19-04 20:12pm
I also have had a problem with a swollen
glad on the right side of my neck that is
hard and very tender. I was put on
keflex (antibiotic) because the md thought
it was infected. I only noticed it when
I started taking accutane for my face
about 2 months ago, and it progressively
got bigger and more painful. Haven't
gone in for a biopsy yet, but most likely
will because after a week on the meds, the
node is still large and painful. Has
anyone had a biopsy before, what is it
like? Painful? Difficult procedure?
Etc.? Thanks!

Swollen Lymp Nodes Can Be Dangerous!!! Posted: 07-20-04 22:36pm
Last year on may 30 I woke up and my 18
month old son (at time) was not breathing
right he was wheezing so I went to my
mother in laws and told her and she said
she was gonna wipe him down in the bath
while I called and got a appointment for
the Dr. Well she came up front screamin
that the baby stopped breathing and turned
blue well he came back too but we
immediatly took him to the hospital and he
stopped breathing twice on the way up
there (10 miles) the nurses called
respitory stat and drs all came running to
my son then they brought cardiac arrest
machines and everything. Well they done
every test they could do and everything
came back negative so they gave my boy
medicine to paralize his body and put him
on life support to keep him breathing. My
child was in the icu for five days and
they had ventilaters down his throat,
feeding tube in one nostril, stomach
empting tube in other nostril, ivs in leg
and arm, and had to keep giving blood
pressure shots to get b.P normal. They said
all this was caused from swollen lymp
nodes closing his wind pipe off and that
if I wouldnt have brought him in when did
he would have died!! They woke him and he
stayedin the hospital for three days
afterwards and his stomach took some time
before it starting working normal again!!!
They called this sudden respitory failure
due to (guessing) a viral infection!! My
child developed asthma due to this and now
everytime he gets a runny nose he starts
wheezing it is very scary!!!! My advice
is if you have swollen lymp nodes go to dr
asap!!!!! Before something like this
happens because the docs said this was
unusal and the specialist had never seen
this before but it goes to show how out
the blue things can kill you!!!

Hey
for the past year and a half i've had 1
hard enlarged lymph node that moves if I
touch it and becomes sore when being
touched a lot, recently i've found another
eblarged lymph node and it really worries
me.
I had a biopsy but the doctor only
confirmed it wasn't cancer and thats all.
I dont really have any symptoms except
fatigue and weakness and the nodes are on
the left side just below right of my ear.
Please tell me what you think

One Swollen Lymph Node Posted: 09-02-05 18:18pm
Hi, I have had a lymph node under my left
ear swollen up for almost a week. I am
on the drug accutane and am wondering if
that could be a possible cause, or if it
is totally unrelated. I feel fine, and I
haven't been to my doctor's yet just in
case the swelling goes down. Could it be
due to allergies or any small infection?
I'd value your feedback, thanks.

Hi, around last november, a node on my
neck got really big, then went down, after
a month it got big again, and one in my
arm pit swelled , both on the right side,
I dont feel any diferent , not tired or
itchy, as for night sweats, ive had that
all my life, the skin around the nodes is
not red, the only bother is the one in my
arm pit, its gotten big enought to
interfere with arm movement, ive been
trying to reseach on the web, cept most
sites dont say much, any one know any good
sites for real information, thanks
