Does a High Tsh Level Prevent Getting Pregnant? Posted: 08-06-06 13:24pm
I have a 4 yr old son and have been trying
to get pregnant again for the past 3
months. 2 months back, I started getting
stomach cramps and breast tenderness and
enlargement one week before the expected
date of my monthly periods. I thought
these were the signs of pregnancy. I
missed my periods, but the pregnany test
was negative. I had lots of backache and
in the 5th week, I got my periods, which
was heavier than usual.
When I visited my gynaecologist, she had a
blood test done for, lh, fsh, hcg, and
tsh. My lh and fsh were in the normal
range. Hcg was < 2. But, my tsh was
7.82. My ultrasound test result was also
normal. And, the doctor told me that I
was not pregnant.
I had a follow-up test done for tsh after
a month and got a value of 5.79. My
physician refused to give me any
medication since the value was just a
little over the normal range.
I have a history of irregular periods but
the last month I got my periods at exactly
29 days.
We were actively trying to get pregnant
this month but I got my periods after
exactly 29 days after severe breast
tenderness, stomach cramps, and leg
cramps. I am very disappointed. Do you
think, since, my tsh value is little high
that I didn't conceive this month? Can
you give me your advice?
