Tingling In Lower Extremities...very Scared! Posted: 01-20-04 11:26am
For the past 8 years, I have had pain from
my right buttock to the back of my right
thigh due to stenosis, spondylolisthesis,
and a disc at l-5 s-1. But, two weeks
ago, the pain I am so used to seemed to
dissapate, and was replaced by tingling in
the sole of my right foot and in the front
of my lower leg! There doesn't seem to
be any reason for this, and I am really
scared. I have been told by numerous
docs and people to avoid having spinal
fusion for as long as possible. But, I
am worried this new symptom means things
are getting worse! I have no weakness or
other neurological problems at this point.
I am just so preoccupied with how i'm
feeling, that it makes it hard to
concentrate on anything else. Any
thoughts?

Radiating pain down the limb and tingling
and numbess is the manifestation of the
same pathology in the lumbar spine i.E.
Spondylolisthesis.
Homoeopathy has good remedies to relieve
the pressure on the nerve thereby
relieving both the symptoms.
Have Many of the Same Issues.... Posted: 01-21-04 14:46pm
And I understand completely where you are
coming from!
The only thing I am acutely aware of at
this point is if you experience any
numbness (not just tingling!) and any loss
of bowel/bladder function, you need to get
to the er pronto!
This is where the nerve roots get totally
damaged and there is a small window to get
this reversed. Sometimes it can't even
be reversed
this is why I am kind of freaking out now
until I can get to my third neurosurgeon
consult.
So far though, I am good!.....Trying to
stay positive and know I am addressing
this quickly will hopefully keep any
damage to a minimum.
Good luck!

I Know Where Both of You Are Comming From Posted: 06-01-04 02:39am
I have had numbness for 2 weeks in my back
and in my left leg .Unbearable . I told
the er they did nothing - I told my
orthopedist and he ignored me. Does one
have to have tingling with loss of
baldder/bowel control to = emergency or is
it if you have one or the other ( any )
that it is an emergency? Please help

Am Not Worried Just Soo Fed Up Posted: 07-18-04 22:48pm
With my back pain and mostly intense leg
pain, my one foot goes like pins and
needles and real cold feeling deep inside.
Weird. I have had it with this pain, I
still don't know what it is, waiting to
see the specialist from out of town. No
disrespect to all doctors but ours here
are idiots.
One says pinched nerve, scatica, the other
says no can't be because when he checked
my reflex (knee) I have a reflex. One
says this one says that meanwhile I am in
such excruciatin pain, I swear if I had a
chain saw, I would saw my bloody leg off.
I dont know how much more of this pain I
can take everyday.

I am sorry but when I read your post I had
to laugh because I have the sam eissues (
really as everyone above has) I went to er
with tingling and also my leg stopped
working in the street but was "fine " by
the time I got to the er. They duid
nothing. I jave had tingling in my foot
back of my knee and butt on the left. I
am in excruciating pain and 2 vicodin es
do not even touch it. They did mri of my
lower back and said there was a smooshed
disk - but it was nothing and I should not
have this pain. They say I have arthritis
in my hip - my hip is the worste pain of
all . I cannot stand it and I too want to
chop it off and throw it in the street.
They did not mri that part and that is
where this whole thing started - I know
people with arthritis and they do not have
pain like this except maybe in later
stages of it . I am only 34 . Oh and I
have also had tingling in my middle back
all the way across -today it felt like my
foot was broken . And I t seems a bag of
groceries feels like I am carrying a ton
of lead. I am scard too and too young to
have these problems and most of the drs
are ignoring me too. What does one do
except know you are not alone. I got
fired from my job this friday for these
problems . I am not feeling too happy

Reading all these makes me feel I am the
lucky one. One month ago, I developed a
prolapsed disc. L5/s1. It was so
painful I too wanted to chop off my leg.
Same symtoms as described. Rest in
hospital for 4 days. Now I am 90% healed.
Now no pain except still cannot walk for
long .
In my case, I think it healed by itself
although I did have 3 sessions with my
china trained chiropractor. Did my
recommended excercise 3 times a day
being a chinese, we avoid all yin food
when we have spinal problems. A westerner
should avoid acidic foods and drinks such
as meat, coffee, coke and any cold
drinks.
For 3 months prior to the prolapse, I felt
some discomfort in my buttock but I did
not heed the warnings. I probably
developed my problem due to unhealthy
lifestyle over the last 1 year. Too much
computer, did not sleep well, lack of
exercise and generally did not take care
of myself. I am 48.
Rest and dont do anything to aggravate it.
See your psysio therapist. He will give
you the right exercises. I also responded
very well to moxibustion, acupunture and
myofascial release ( a form of massage.)
great help to me after discharge from
hospital.

I am a 51 year old male, who has undergone
13 surgeries since 1997, 5 spinal
surgeries, all surgeries has failed and 7
abdominal surgeries, due to my last spinal
surgeries, I had been diagnosed with an
incisional surgery because a jp drainage
system was not put in after the first
surgery, causing 3 staph infections and 7
surgeries to finally close the gaping hole
in my stomach. All surgeries done in fort
myers florida, (please stay away from the
doctors in that area). I take 8 to 32 mg.
Of dilaudid a day to combat the pain,
along with 10 mg of valiun and soma, a
muscle relaxer, seems like alot of
medication but 5 years ago I was on
atleast 12 different types of medication,
I weaned myself off, afraid of the damage
I was doing to my liver and was not
helping. My problem now, every month my
lower extremities become very numb, from my
waiste to my feet, not painful but very
discomfortable, making it hard to
walk. When this happens I have to take 24
mg dilaudid and within an hour the
numbness seems to go away somewhat, still
able to function this problem is getting
worse. I just recently had a mri last
wek, (1.14.2006), findings, l-4, l-5
spinal surgery has not fused, @ the l-5,
s-1 severe facet joint arthropathy, &
mild stenosis, alot off scar tissue around
the l-4, l-5 area, also @ the same level
demonstrates moderate enhancing tissue in
the left parasagittal region, @ the l-3,
l-4 level severe stenosis secondary to
ligamentum flavum and facet hypertrophy
and severe right sided foraminal with
compression of the l-e nerve root, @ the
l2-3 level there is a disc herniation with
acute annular tear causing compression on
the l2 nerve root, facet hypertrophy
leading to moderate spinal stenosis, now I
now I am considerd a high risk patient and
with everyone trying to sue doctors, no
docroe will come near me, they give me
excuses but I know the reason, the funny
thing is with all the failed surgeries I
have never not once talen any cilal action
against any doctor, all I want in life now
is to be pain free, or atleast better off
then I am today, I mover from the ft.
Myers area on the advise on my doctors to
central florida, orlando, staing this
would be the only are that doctors would
or be able to handle high risk patients,
i',m really tired of the caca I receive ,
even from the doctors here in orlando, I
was turned down for surgery last week
because my last surgeon put in his report
this was a salvage operation and most
possibly more surgery would be needed,
please don't get me wrong, I am not
looking nor want another surgery, but am a
very realistic person and realize with the
report from the last mri and with the
lower extremities numbness, this is
finally getting the best of me, some type
of surgery would relieve the pain I live
through all day, I would think i'm new to
the post or forum, I don't know if
doctors ever read this message board, but
I need a doctor with balls, not afraid to
take on a hard case, basically all I want
is help, so anyone reading this message
with any suggestions please feel free to
contact me @paulw@cfl.Rr.Com, I wish all
of you with posts on this forum only the
best and hopefully a speedy recovery and
if I can help with any answers with all
i've been through please don't be afraid
to ask, sincerely paul w : :?:- :( :?:

Back Pain Legs And Geet Poster Ib Posted: 02-22-06 00:19am
I don't know if this is a post a reply
page if so this is for ib, try asking your
doctor to test if you have a disease
called rsd, reflex sypmothy dystrophy, I
don't know where you reside but the
leading specialist is located in the tampa
area, works out of tampa general, best in
the country, I can't think of his name at
the moment but if you called the hospital
they would give you his name, this disease
is caused by trauma to a nerve or nerves
best of luck to you if I can be of any
more help please write, I know how you
feel because I ws diagnosed with this rsd
years ago and if not treated, usually with
shots can get worse, best of luck paul

Goldilox,
your symptoms are pretty normal for your
condition. You may have over exerted
yourself and caused swelling which would
explain your symptoms. Or the l5-s1 disc
could have finally ruptured, you need to
get to a neurosurgeon to be adequately
diagnosed. Fwiw my first spinal fusion
was a great success, pain was alleviated
and the symptoms in my legs were reduced.
When you get to feeling better do what
the doctor tells you to do and don't do
what he tells you not to do. I'm in the
shape i'm in now because I got to feeling
better and basically abused my back and
reinjured it. Take care of yourself and
get some imaging studies done, mri, cat
scan, xrays whatever and make sure your
condition hasn't worsened.

Very Similar Symptoms Posted: 01-02-08 10:24am
I too have the pain in the lower back. It
started three years ago to the right of my
tailbone then spread to my hips, first
right then both. About 2 months ago, the
arches in my feet started to hurt with the
right foot affected in such a way that I
would get a pain that felt similar to
someone poking a bad bruise for about 30
seconds. Just a few days ago, I noticed
my right foot getting tingly in the heel
and toes but not inside like when your
foot falls asleep, more like I was
stepping on something with an electrical
current.
I have scoliosis and was diagnosed with it
23 years ago, when I was 15. It isn't so
severe that it required surgery and I've
never been told the degree of the curves
but I know that there are two, one
appearing if you're looking at me from the
back and the other if you're looking at me
from the side.
The difference with me is that I can
manipulate the lower back pain myself by
flexing my glutes but it is only
momentarily relieved. I've found nothing
to help with my foot pain. Even wearing
Dansks doesn't help.
I go to the chiropractor tomorrow and,
hopefully, something good will come out of
it.
