Hi!
It is advised that you take folic acid
when you are trying to conceive as well as
when you are actually pregnant. Since
most women won't know they are pregnant
until at least 4 weeks gone I suppose this
makes sure that you are getting the dose
needed to help protect the baby :-)

I also take those as a daily vit. My Dr.
Was surprised when I told him 5 years ago
as we were trying to get preg. He said
that I was doing a great thing cause his
advice was that all women of child bearing
age take prenatals as it keeps their body
as it should be for a preg. And there
won't be any defeinceies which is the
cause of several birth defects.

I was only taking vitamin c before I got
pregnant, so I was a little worried once I
found out I was pregnant because I know
how essential it is to get plenty of folic
acid. I make sure I take them daily and
I know to continue doing so after birth
for breastfeeding. I'm sure its
perfectly fine to take prenatals when
you're not pregnant or breastfeeding, but
I would watch iron supplements because too
much as well as a deficiency can be just
as harmful.....Prenatal vitamins are
awesome, but they aren't really necessary
if you're not pregnant or not trying to
get pregnant because you are just
excreting the extra vitamins that your
body doesn't really need. Also, there is
more vitamin e in prenatal vitamins then a
non-pregnant woman needs. Vitamin e is
fat-soluable, so it resides in your body
and can thin out your blood if you're
taking too much.
