I just starting taking birth control pills
for the first time a little over a week
ago. I know you are suppose to take the
pills the first sunday after your period
starts. But I actually started taking
them a week late. I didnt want to have
to wait a whole month before I started
taking them. Since I took them a week
late, I figure I will just skip the
plecebo pills and go straight to a new
pack the 1st sunday I start my period.
I've heard that if you skip the plecebo
pills usually you will just skip your
period for that month. So I figured it
would be harmless. I just want to know
if this was ok to do, and if the pills
will be just as effective even though I
started them a week late. Also, do you
think my period will be off for the next
couple of months because of it, or
probably just this month? Any advice
would be much appreciated. Thanks. Oh,
and I havent had any spoting or nausea,
which I am thankful for.

My obgyn told me to start taking the pills
on the 3rd day of my period. But your
taking it a week later. I don't think
you should've skipped the placebo pills
since you're taking birth control pills
for your first time. Even if you could
skip next months period why would you
attempt to do it on your first month when
you don't know what you're doing? I
think your'e supposed to take a whole
months of pills so your body can get used
to it or something.
You took a huge chance by starting a week
late and you took a huge chance skipping
the placebo pills. Go ask your obgyn to
find out what to do.
If you skip the placebo pills it skips the
next month. But you are new at this so
it might really mess a lot of things up.

The placebo pills are taken at the end of
the month, and that is what she is asking
about. I don't see why you need to skip
them; taking the pills resets your cycle
to coincide with the cycle of the pills.
You need the first few months to be
"typical use" (ie no skipping the placebo
pills) in order to get your body in synch
correctly. It doesn't matter when during
your cycle you start the pills; the only
reason you're told to start during your
period is because then protection starts
right away. I was personally told to
start my pills the day after my period
ended. That happened to be a monday.
