Seriously Worried And Confused About Abnormal Bleeding Posted: 08-16-06 03:45am
This is a little obscure..
I'm on my 10th pack of monthly pills of
lutera. I have not experienced any side
effects at any point in time from them,
and my periods have been right on
schedule. Recently, I went to japan for
10 days, and continued to take the pills
(i did not have any intercourse while
there). When I came back, I realized I
had lost a day, and thus lost a pill.
What I did (albeit stupidly) was I skipped
a pill on a day when I had no sex (the
12th), nor did I have sex the day before
or 3 days after, and took the pill at the
normal time the next day. A day later
(the 14th), I began experiencing vaginal
bleeding. Later that day, I decided to
take the first pill from next month's pack
in an attempts to compensate (about 30
hours after I skipped a pill). I
experienced some nausea the next morning,
but that I believe is to be expected.
I am still experiencing light bleeding (a
day after it first began and 2 weeks
before my period), and i'm now using a
lite tampon.
So my questions are:
1) is this something serious that I should
worry about?
2) what backups should I use if I have sex
soon?
3) in the future, when I cross into a
different timezone and need to take pills,
what should I do to compensate for the
loss of one pill when I get home?
Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Normally when you miss a pill for any
reason, you should take the pill you
missed as sson as you know it. If, if
course, you ended up a few days ahead
before knowing it, take two pills in a
row, and that should catch you up. If it
is a few days later, it might not
compensate for the drop in horomones, but
it may act to help prevent ovulation a
little bit more.
As for the bleeding, I don't know.
Planned parenthood has a hotline you can
call with all sorts of questions, they
helped me once :)

Thank you very much for your help!! The
pill still confuses me though... So you
take it like normal, and after you cross
the dateline you take it twice at the next
time, and then skip a day? O_o;;
i think i'm switching to nuvaring at the
end of this month. =p
thanks again!!

Whenever you miss pills or take them late,
you will most likely have spotting and
bleeding.
Basically what is advised is that if you
miss pills you 'double up', take two every
day unitl you are back on track.. Unless
you miss more than 4 days.

but if I double up, does that mean that I
just skip the pill on the day that I took
it from? Like, if I doubled up on
wednesday with wednesday's and thursday's
pill, do I just not take a pill on
thursday? When do you actually catch up?
And is it too late for me to do that now
that I haven't been doubling up for 3
days?

Here is what it means: let's say you miss
your pill wednesday, and you don't realise
it until thursday. On thursday, you take
both pills, the one from wednesday, and
the one for thursday. That way, you are
caught up. If you miss wednesday andp
thursday, then on friday, take the pill
from wednesday and fridays pill, then on
saturday, take saturday's and thursday's
pill. Then, you are caught up :)
